Marvel's NEW WARRIORS Series Sets Cast, Including Squirrel Girl

One of Marvel’s next television shows is New Warriors, the studio’s first-ever scripted comedy series. The show is expected to premiere sometime next year on ABC’s Freeform. Fan-favorite character Squirrel Girl will make her live action debut on New Warriors, alongside a team of lesser-known characters from the Marvel Universe.

Now, the series has a cast. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Squirrel Girl and the five other stars of New Warriors have been cast. Showrunner Kevin Biegel says, “I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them.”

Below is the list of actors and descriptions of their characters.

  • Milana Vayntrub (This is Us and AT&T’s Lily Adams) plays Doreen Green, aka Squirrel Girl. Green is “…a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a … squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.” Shannon Purser and Mae Whitman were also considered for this role.
  • Derek Theler (Baby Daddy) will play Craig Hollis, aka Mister Immortal. This character claims to be unable to die, but he is in no rush to use his powers and learn to be a hero.
  • Jeremy Tardy (Dear White People) plays Dwayne Taylor, aka Night Thrasher. Described as brilliant but cocky, Taylor is “…a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.”
  • Calum Worthy (Austin & Ally) will play Robbie Baldwin, aka Speedball. Baldwin has the power to throw kinetic balls of energy, but due to his people-pleasing attitude and misplaced confidence, he lacks control.
  • Matthew Moy (2 Broke Girls) plays Zack Smith, aka Microbe. It’s impossible to keep secrets around Smith, who “…is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and who you hung out with.”
  • And finally, Kate Comer (The Comeback) will play Deborah Fields, aka Debrii. Fields is a lesbian who is proud, funny, and witty. She is a low-level telekinetic – for example, she can move something as low as a paper cup.
