Rumor: WONDER WOMAN 2 Will Take Place in the Cold War Era, [Spoiler] Will Return

[Warning: The Following Contains SPOILERS From Wonder Woman.]

After the huge success of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. is absolutely moving forward with a sequel. Patty Jenkins is already working on a story treatment with Geoff Johns, and it’s likely that she will return to direct as well. While Wonder Woman is now operating in the present day with Batman v Superman and Justice League, it has been expected that her next standalone film will be another period piece. Now, we may know what time period it’ll take place in.

ScreenRant has apparently learned from “production details” that Wonder Woman 2 will take place in the 1980s, 70 years after the events of the first movie. In this sequel, Diana will be going up against the Soviet Union during the Cold War era. The production team from the first movie is expected to return.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this rumor claims that Wonder Woman 2 will see the return of none other than Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor. Obviously, the character died in the final act of the first movie, so how can he come back?

Back when he was cast back in 2015, Pine signed a multi-picture contract to play Trevor in potential Wonder Woman sequels and/or other DC movies. Also, an old rumor claimed that Pine would play both Trevor in World War I and his grandson in the present day. It’s not impossible that a descendant/relative of Trevor’s – who happens to look exactly like Trevor – could pop up during another time period, such as the 1980s. However, in Wonder Woman, Trevor never mentioned being married or having kids.

Meanwhile, The Wrap has verified Wonder Woman 2‘s Cold War setting. While the site doesn’t confirm Trevor’s return, it does reaffirm that Warner Bros. still has an option for Pine to reprise the role.

Again, this is just a rumor for now. Hopefully, we’ll hear official confirmation sooner than later. Stay tuned.
