THOR: RAGNAROK Looks to Have a Thunderous Opening Weekend
Thor: Ragnarok opens in just over a month from now; and now we have an idea how big a hit it’ll actually be. According to BoxOffice Pro, Thor: Ragnarok is tracking to have a $100MM opening weekend domestically. In comparison, the first Thor film only made $65MM its first weekend, going on to collect $181MM in its full domestic run. It’s sequel, Thor: The Dark World, made $85MM in its first weekend, and hauled in a solid $206 million in its entire run domestically.
A $100MM opening would keep Thor: Ragnarok in line with the other comic book movies of the year. Wonder Woman grossed $103MM, Spider-Man: Homecoming made $117MM, and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 brought in a whopping $146MM. Thor’s numbers are likely to change by the time we get to November, but it does give us an outline. It’s interesting that even with the Hulk, Thor likely won’t make much more than the other superhero films.
The film should have a strong couple of weeks, the only film that would challenge Thor: Ragnarok is Bad Moms: Christmas. Things might come to a halt when Justice League opens two weeks later. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on. For more info on Thor: Ragnarok and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stay tuned.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3rd!
