Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel movie is finally in the pre-production phase, with filming expected to begin early next year. Brie Larson is set to star as Carol Danvers, with Ben Mendelsohn playing the villain. Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury in this movie, which is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Now, the film has made another noteworthy casting.
According to Variety, actor Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead in Captain Marvel. If a deal closes, he will play Dr. Walter Lawson, aka Mar-Vell. Lawson is a mentor for Danvers as she learns about her new powers. In the comics, Mar-Vell was the original Captain Marvel, assuming the mantle decades before Danvers.
Captain Marvel marks Law’s latest franchise role, following John Watson in Sherlock Holmes and his upcoming debut as Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
