SHAZAM! Casts Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard

EW has learned Djimon Hounsou has been cast in Shazam! He’ll be playing the 3,000 year-old sorcerer that grants young Billy Batson his powers. Now, you may be asking…

… but the Kree mercenary Korath the Pursuer that adult Peter Quill runs into when he’s first introduced to the audience was played by Hounsou. You may also know Hounsou for his roles in Amistad, Gladiator (“I will see you again but not yet, not yet.”) and even 2005’s Constantine, where he played Papa Midnite. Hounsou is no stranger to comic book adaptations.

Shazam! is set to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019. The seventh installment in the DC Films Universe stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, and Djimon Hounsou.
