Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, Man of Steel actor Harry Lennix made his legendary announcement that Batman and Superman will share the big screen for the first time in the sequel, now titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, it has been clear that the film will be influenced by the iconic graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns, which pitted the two iconic heroes in an epic brawl. Footage from the Justice League prequel shown at this year’s Comic-Con teased a big screen iteration of that very scene, with Batman wearing an armored suit that looked just like the comic version.
While we wait for more official news on the movie, we have a new interview with Lennix. Speaking with Moviefone while promoting season two of The Blacklist, the General Swanwick actor is unsurprisingly asked about Batman v Superman. And even less surprisingly, he remained mum on specifics. However, he does offer a handful of interested teases, reaffirming that fans of Frank Miller’s iconic graphic novel will enjoy it. “‘Batman v Superman’ … [Laughs] Well, no. Anybody who’s a fan of the ’86 graphic novel “The Dark Knight Returns,” I think will be well pleased by that. This is a historic event. Clearly, Zack Snyder is on the cutting edge of directing movies of this scope and scale. I think you can depend on the acting — you’ve got Amy Adams, of course. You’ve got Henry [Cavill]. I don’t think there are any surprises with regard to that. What will happen remains to be seen. I’d probably wind up in a box some place.”
Indeed, a movie featuring the first big screen encounter of Superman and Batman – not to mention the official cinematic debuts for Wonder Woman and other DC heroes – marks a key event in comic book film history. And, especially with a release date with virtually no competition, Batman v Superman should easily be one of the highest grossing movies of 2016. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters March 25th, 2016. A follow-up to Man of Steel, the second installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Holly Hunter, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer.
