DC Comics Comedy POWERLESS Officially Ordered to Series by NBC

With Upfronts 2016 coming soon, television networks are officially finalizing their 2016-2017 schedules. Some shows will be renewed, some will be canceled, and some new ones will be picked up. And now, DC Entertainment is adding yet another new series to its lineup.

NBC (via Entertainment Weekly) has officially ordered the workplace comedy Powerless to series. The show stars Vanessa Hudgens as Emily, described as a “…spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes.”

However, after standing up to one of these heroes, Emily “…accidentally becomes a cult ‘hero’ in her own right…even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.”

Powerless also stars Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi and Christina Kirk. The series is set firmly in the DC Universe, and it’s told from the perspective of the insurance company workers. It sounds like a unique concept for DC’s television slate, and it marks one of the company’s many shows that will be on the air this season. Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, iZombie and Gotham will all be back, while a decision on Supergirl‘s future will be made imminently.

No details on how many episodes have been ordered for Powerless, or where exactly it would fit on NBC’s schedule. Expect that information to be announced in the near future. Stay tuned.
