Chris Miller and Phil Lord Praise THE FLASH Director Rick Famuyiwa

Chris Miller and Phil Lord wrote the story treatment for DC Films’ The Flash, and at one point, they were in consideration to direct it. However, they passed that position to Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the script based on their treatment. Grahame-Smith later dropped out, and recently, Rick Famuyiwa replaced him.

Speaking with IGN, Miller and Lord weigh in on Famuyiwa directing The Flash. And unsurprisingly, they have nothing but positive things to say. Lord calls him a “rad choice,” while Miller says the Dope filmmaker will do a “great job” with this movie.

So far, the DC Extended Universe has focused on more serious characters like Batman and Superman. However, Flash is expected to bring plenty of lightness and comedy relief to Justice League and beyond. When asked if he and Lord had anything to do with this characterization, Miller says, “They had that planned for him in the first place. That’s why they were talking to us in the first place because that’s how they wanted to go with that character, and I think that’s why they came to us.”

Miller then adds that Flash ushers in a “new energy” into the DCEU. “Batman has to be kind of bummed out because his parents died and Superman is already established as a serious person and Wonder Woman’s angry about stuff. Stuff’s happening. But then you’ve got a guy who’s like, ‘Eh, whatever, I run fast!'”

The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the Fastest Man Alive, hits theaters on March 16th, 2018. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
