Nicolas Winding Refn Wants to Direct a BATGIRL Movie for Warner Bros.

Back in 2011, Drive and The Neon Demon director Nicolas Winding Refn campaigned for the coveted job of helming a Wonder Woman movie. Of course, that never came to pass, as Patty Jenkins was hired to direct next year’s film. However, Refn still wants to tackle the superhero genre, and he has named one character specifically that he would like to adapt.

In an interview with Business Insider, Refn reaffirms that he would love to make a comic book movie, saying that it would be “great fun.” “I just don’t know when it’s going to happen. I very much enjoy my freedom creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity.”

Then, after a moment of pondering, Refn reveals that he wants to make a movie about DC Comics’ Batgirl. “What ones are left? You know the one I want to do? I want to make Batgirl. Let’s get Warner working on it.”

Batgirl is expected to appear in WB’s Harley Quinn-centric film, which will feature an ensemble of female DC characters. However, the project is currently without a director. Maybe Refn would be interested in this one? Or, Batgirl could later be spun off into her own movie, which would be directed by Refn.

Would you like to see Refn direct a Batgirl movie or any other DC film?
