STRANGER THINGS' Charlie Heaton in Talks to Join NEW MUTANTS Movie as Cannonball
Casting is well underway for 20th Century Fox’s next X-Men spin-off, New Mutants. The film, described by director Josh Boone as a “full-fledged horror movie,” is set to star Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, and possibly Rosario Dawson as Dr. Cecelia Reyes. Additionally, Henry Zaga is rumored for the role of Sunspot. Now, another new mutant (heh) is about to be cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stranger Things alum Charlie Heaton is in talks to play Sam Guthrie, aka Cannonball, in New Mutants. Cannonball’s abilities allow him to propel himself into the air at jet speeds and become encased in an impenetrable force field. So, kind of like a cannonball.
THR adds that Fox intends to create something really unique for the comic book movie genre with New Mutants, hence the horror thriller tone. This comes on the heels of Deadpool and Logan, which both redefined what it means to be a superhero film. Meanwhile, New Mutants is also looking to cast Danielle Moonstar and Warlock. Expect updates on that to come soon.
New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 13th, 2018.
