New KRYPTON Details Revealed; Brainiac, Doomsday, and More DC Characters to Appear

The San Diego Comic-Con panel for SyFy’s new Superman prequel series, Krypton just wrapped up. During the panel, we learned a lot more about what to expect from the show, as well as the arrival of several fan-favorite DC characters.

Originally, we thought Krypton would just be an exploration of Kal-El’s lineage, set centuries before the planet’s destruction. Turns out it’s much more than that. At SDCC (via THR), Geoff Johns revealed that Krypton will revolve around a conspiracy theory that comes from the present day. “It’s a show that, although it takes place centuries ago on Krypton about the House of El, it’s about a conspiracy from the present that has traveled back in time to Krypton to prevent Superman’s legacy from ever happening.”

To stop the conspiracy, iconic DC heroes will be traveling to Krypton. Among them are Adam Strange and Hawkwoman. Johns also confirms that classic Superman villains Brainiac and Doomsday will appear on the show. He adds, “There are others [from Earth] already on Krypton and as the series progresses, we’ll bring in some more [classic DC characters].”

The Krypton crew went down this route because setting the entire show in the past may not be compelling enough for viewers. Thus, they’re connecting it to the present day. It also plays heavily into Seg-El’s arc in earning the House of El symbol; not only will he establish his legacy, but also preserve the legacy of his grandson, Kal.
