Michelle Williams in Talks to Join VENOM Movie
Sony Pictures is finally moving ahead with its Venom movie, a new take on the iconic Spider-Man villain. The studio has made some noteworthy casting choices so far; Tom Hardy has been cast as Eddie Brock, while Riz Ahmed will play an unnamed character. Now, we have another one to add.
According to Variety, Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams is in talks to join the cast of Venom. The role is described as a district attorney who is “possibly” Brock’s love interest. While unconfirmed, this character is most likely Ann Weying, who was rumored to be in the movie this past summer.
Williams tends to avoid blockbuster films, with the exception being 2013’s Oz: The Great and Powerful. Instead, she has kept focus on more prestige movies. However, if her deal closes, Venom will serve as her comic book movie debut. That, along with the film’s other casting decisions, promises a potentially special entry in the genre.
Venom will begin production next month under the direction of Ruben Fleischer. The script was written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. The film is set to hit theaters on October 5th, 2018.
