Rumor: Two Characters Have Been Cut from JUSTICE LEAGUE

We’re now less than two months from the release of DC Films’ Justice League, which is now well into post-production following lengthy reshoots. Apparently, Warner Bros. is now testing a cut of the movie to lucky audiences. While specific details are (obviously) under wraps, rumor has it that this cut has removed two characters from the film.

Sources tell Batman-News that Iris West, played by Kiersey Clemons, has been cut from Justice League. The site has also backed up the rumor that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor has been removed from the movie as well. There was no reason given for exactly why either charater was cut. Of course, this probably isn’t the final version of Justice League, and it’s possible that Iris and/or Lex will be added back in later. But as of right now, they’re no longer in it.

Clemons was cast as Iris, aka Barry Allen’s love interest, for The Flash standalone movie, which has now become Flashpoint. But she had also filmed some scenes for Justice League, which she was super excited about. Despite being (apparently) cut from the superhero ensemble film, there isn’t anything that suggests she won’t be in Flashpoint.

Meanwhile, Lex was the main villain of last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. When we last saw him, he was imprisoned and shaven down to his iconic bald look. His last scene, plus a deleted clip, suggested that he knows some things about Steppenwolf and the Mother Boxes, which would have tied in nicely with Justice League. But, that may no longer be happening.

Again, this is all a rumor for now. While it’s possible that the characters aren’t in the movie right now, that doesn’t mean they can’t be added back in by the time the movie actually comes out. So, take this info with a pinch of salt for the time being.

But even if they have been removed altogether, how will that affect the final product? Justice League is already focusing on a lot, such as the formation of the League and establishing Apokoliptian mythos. It’s entirely feasible that, in an attempt to streamline the movie, Joss Whedon and co. have decided to remove some scenes and characters that aren’t that critical to the main story. And if it happens to make the movie better, then great. But, that’s just my opinion.

Justice League is scheduled to hit theaters November 17th. The fifth installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarán Hinds, Amber Heard, Joe Morton, Willem Dafoe, Jeremy Irons, and J.K. Simmons. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon.
