Screentests Have Started For SHAZAM!

Shazam!, the next film on DC’s schedule sent out a casting call last week. According to MovieHole, Warner Brothers has opened the call to a wide range of actors. Meaning Billy Batson and his alter ego Shazam, could possibly be played by unknown actors. This is similar to what Marvel/Sony did with Spider-Man or what LucasFilm has done with their Star Wars cast. It’s easier for a fresh face to take on a role and essentially become that character; Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is a prime example of this being a strength.

Shazam! will be looking to blend action and humor. Giving it a more family friendly vibe compared to the other DC movies. Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam) will not be appearing in the film, but MovieHole is reporting that there is a possibility that the character will debut in the Man of Steel sequel. This is only a rumor so take that with a grain of salt, but it might be something to keep an eye on. Black Adam might be out of the picture, but that doesn’t mean other Shazam! characters won’t play prominent roles in the film. Billy’s foster parents, Victor and Rosa Vasquez will play a role in the film as well as their foster children: Eugene, Freddy, and Pedro.

Moviehole also gave us a little news on the Flashpoint movie. After Barry Allen alters the timeline, the rest of the DC Universe will slightly change. We don’t know how big the changes might be, but it’ll be interesting to see how they approach this. It can go from recasting a younger Batman to giving Henry Cavill the iconic Superman curl. I for one can’t wait to how they handle this, there’s endless possibilities. For more news on Shazam! and everything in the world of DC Entertainment, stay tuned.

Shazam! hits theaters April 5th, 2019.
