Will IRON FIST Finally Get His Costume in Season 2?

One of the biggest criticisms surrounding Marvel and Netflix’s Iron Fist was the lack of a costume for Danny Rand. He didn’t get one in The Defenders either. But with the character’s solo show being renewed for a second season, we may end up seeing the Immortal Iron Fist suiting up. At least if actor Finn Jones gets his way.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Jones says that we will see Rand get his costume eventually, possibly in Iron Fist season two. However, it’s not his call to make; it’s on the writers and producers.

Jones then explains how Rand’s character arc in Iron Fist and The Defenders would result in him wearing a costume. “The first season of Iron Fist, he doesn’t even really know what a superhero is, let alone identify himself as one. It’s not until Defenders and when he meets the three superheroes, that he kind of goes, ‘Oh, you can actually do something with these abilities. You can find a purpose.’ Which is exactly what Danny had been struggling to find throughout his whole life. So towards the end of Defenders, Danny has certainly become a lot more grounded, and driven, and more purposeful character. And I certainly think, moving forward into season two, that superhero outfit would be something that Danny Rand finds extremely alluring and cool, and after seeing Daredevil in his getup, I definitely think he may be persuaded to find one himself.”

Jones also hopes that his eventual Iron Fist suit will include the classic yellow bandana. As for exactly which costume will be used, Jones expresses interest in a “mashup” of them all. Iron Fist has worn several costumes in the comics, from the classic yellow-and-green to black-and-yellow to white-and-yellow.

Without going into spoilers, the events of The Defenders certainly have an important impact on Rand’s character arc, helping him find his purpose in New York. It will be interesting to see how that progresses in Iron Fist season two, and hopefully, a costume is part of that.

Iron Fist season two is expected to begin shooting this December, likely for a 2019 release.
