Meanwhile: Five Storylines for JUSTICE LEAGUE 2

Meanwhile: Five Storylines for Justice League 2
Well, here we are.  Watchtower of Babel’s Countdown to Justice League begins, and I’m batting leadoff.  And following the path of the DC Film Universe thus far, let’s dive into the deep end of the pool get right to sequel fanwank.  Here are five possible storylines for the sequel.
The White Martian Saga
Pretty much from the second Grant Morrison introduced the Hyperclan in JLA, the White Martians have become major players in the DC Universe.  They were the first villains used in the Justice League cartoon, they played a role in several major DC Events and the character Miss Martian was a recurring character in both Young Justice and Supergirl.
The sworn enemy of the Green Martians pretty much share all the abilities, but where the Greens were peaceful the Whites were conquerors and their war with the Greens was what destroy Mars leaving only J’onn J’onnz as a survivor.

What’s that?  Using the White Martians would be a perfect way to introduce Martian Manhunter to the DC Film Universe?  Huh, that never occurred to me.  Moving along.

The Injustice League
No, I don’t mean the Legion of Doom, I’m actually referring to the Geoff Johns storyline that followed Forever Evil where Lex joined the League in an effort to help rehabilitate their public image.  Lex was central to the defeat of the Crime Syndicate after him Bizarro and Captain Cold team up with Black Manta, Black Adam and eventually Sinestro, Batman and Catwoman.
The storyline was the reintroduction of a lot of Cosmic DC concepts into the New 52, name the multiverse and the Antimonitor and also increased the threat level of Darkseid but in this instance all I’m really talking about is introducing a big enough threat to lead to the League having to turn to Lex in order to save the day.
And speaking of Darkseid and the Antimonitor…
The Darkseid War
The Darkseid War is probably the Geoff Johnsiest Geoff Johns story since Blackest Night.  Darkseid fighting the Antimonitor… The Amazon lore turned on its head… Mister Miracle… Batman takes control of the Mobius Chair… Darkseid is murdered, and the Justice League become gods and that’s only Act One!
It’s big, bombastic and full of moments that would be amazing to see on film.  I know what you’re thinking, this is a story that should have an established Darkseid so this should be Justice League 3. It’s becoming evident that it’s better to loosely adapt stories, but the idea of the Antimonitor vs. Darkseid with the Justice League trying to stop them both would make a great film.

Something, something segue…

The Sinestro Corps War
I liked the Green Lantern movie… there it’s said but the fact remains that the film failed and the Green Lanterns will have to be reintroduced.  I’m not a big fan of hard reboots, but if they’re going to reintroduce the Lanterns, it won’t hurt to do it with a soft reboot.  The Sinestro Corps War is a great place to start.
After Hal returns from the dead and he and the other Earth Lanterns rebuild the Green Lantern Corps Geoff Johns upped the stakes by introducing the Sinestro Corps.  Hal’s greatest friend and worst enemy, Sinestro traveled the Universe and gather his own army and empowers them with rings harnessing the Yellow Light of Fear.  Like the Darkseid War, this isn’t just a great story but is full of great moments (like Batman momentarily being recruited into the Sinestro Corp) and leads into the Blackest Night.  This could be a good way to introduce the bigger concepts of the Green Lantern mythos and make it more exciting than the Green Lantern movie managed.
Plus, Sinestro Corps Batman.  Just look at him!
Speaking of Batman, I’ve got one more.
Tower of Babel
You didn’t think I was going to leave this off the list, did you?  It’s Batman vs. himself.  Ra’s and Talia al Ghul steal Batman’s doomsday’s preparation files on the rest of the League and use them to dismantle the team and force Bruce to work against the plans he devised.  This is the ultimate argument for Batman + Prep Time = Victory, and you have to know it will at least be discussed.  Whine about Batman being overpowered and overused, I don’t care.  The fact is when you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on these movies, you will have to use the biggest weapons in your arsenal, and for DC that’s Bruce Wayne.
Stop resenting characters just because they’re popular, that’s what Tony Stark would do, and he’s an asshole!
So there you have it, five possible stories to help build your Justice League sequel.  Come back tomorrow for more Justice League history from your friends at Watchtower of Babel.

Just another guy on the internet.
