Entertainment Weekly has revealed its second San Diego Comic-Con 2018 cover, which will be available exclusively online and at the convention. This cover brings DC Films’ next big hero to the spotlight.
The cover features Zachary Levi suited up as the titular hero in Shazam!, which will be part of Warner Bros. and DC’s panel this Saturday. The magazine also has some quotes from Levi, who pitches the film as “Superman Meets Big.” He also says that, unlike many modern superheroes, Billy Batson will actually love being a hero and can’t wait to use his powers.
Producer Peter Safran chimes in, reaffirming that Shazam! will have a much lighter tone than past DC movies. “From my perspective, Shazam! represents the next step in the evolution of the DC brand. You had Wonder Woman, then Aquaman [coming Dec. 21] is another big step, then comes Shazam! – all different movies, but all have a unique tone that moves away from the darkness of the prior DC movies.”
Hopefully, we’ll have plenty more Shazam! goods to share this week before SDCC. Stay tuned.
Shazam! is set to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019. The seventh installment in the DC Films Universe stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, and Djimon Hounsou. David F. Sandberg directs from a script by Henry Gayden.
