TV News Bits: The CW Edition
In today’s TV news bits, we’re talking about three shows on The CW! First up: Black Lightning! Black Lightning showrunners and producers Salim and Mara Brock Akil confirmed at San Diego Comic Con that they are trying to build a “Lightningverse” as like the “Arrowverse”. It has been confirmed before that Black Lightning is not a part of the Arrowverse, but with the number of Earths in the Arrowverse, it can be brought in should producers choose to do so. Welcome to a special SDCC-themed installment of TV News Bits. Here, we’ll be going over new characters joining Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, a hit Marvel show’s renewal, and two other shows promoting characters to series regulars. Supergirl Adds 3 to Cast At San Diego Comic-Con, Supergirl announced (via KryptonSite) the addition of three characters, following Sam Witwer‘s casting. Actress Nicole Maines will play Nia Nal/Dreamer, TV’s first transgender superhero. Nia is a new addition to the CatCo reporting team, and she must embrace her destiny as the superhero Dreamer. ARROW Casts The Longbow Hunters, Sets Returning Villains for Season 7
A lot of new season seven details are announced at Arrow‘s San Diego Comic-Con panel this year. In addition to the trailer, The CW confirmed that new and returning villains are coming to the show. As teased in the season six finale, the Longbow Hunters are coming to Arrow next year. The group, a trio of deadly assassins, are recruited by Ricardo Diaz to exact vengeance on Oliver and his team. The lineup here consists of Red Dart, Kodiak, and Silencer. In addition, Oliver will be facing old villains while in prison. A lot of television shows held their San Diego Comic-Con panels yesterday, and there, first-look trailers for the new seasons were introduced. Here, we have a round-up of all the trailers – all five DC shows on The CW, plus Fox’s X-Men drama The Gifted. Kara deals with the rise of Agent Liberty (and gets a new suit?!) on Supergirl. Oliver Queen deals with his life in jail on Arrow. The team recruits John Constantine on Legends of Tomorrow. A new mutant age rises on The Gifted. Lobo is Coming to KRYPTON Season 2
Krypton held its San Diego Comic-Con panel today to promote its second season, and some interesting new details were announced. Most significantly, the big bad of this season was confirmed, and it’s none other than the Main Man himself. It was announced that Lobo will be popping up in Krypton season two next year. An actor hasn’t been announced at this time. This will mark the character’s official live action debut. Jaw-Dropping AQUAMAN Trailer Surfaces at San Diego Comic-Con
As promised, Warner Bros. premiered the first trailer for DC’s Aquaman at its San Diego Comic-Con panel today. The trailer gives fans a long-awaited first look at footage from the film, and needless to say, it doesn’t disappoint. Check it out below, and stay tuned for more as we have it. Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters on December 21st. Sony showcased Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at San Diego Comic-Con last night, and while no footage was released online, plenty of interesting new information was shared. Comic Book was among the outlets in attendance, and below is a rundown of highlights from the site’s coverage… As previously reported, Nicolas Cage is voicing Spider-Man Noir in Into the Spider-Verse. First GLASS Trailer Drops at San Diego Comic-Con
At San Diego Comic-Con last night, director M. Night Shyamalan shared the trailer for his highly anticipated sequel Glass, which brings Unbreakable and Split together. The films, inspired by comic books and superheroes, will complete the Eastrail 177 trilogy. The new trailer shows plenty of new footage from Glass, pitting David Dunn against Kevin Wendell Crumb and placing Mr. Glass at the center of it. DC Beefs Animated Slate to 4 Movies Next Year; Featuring BATMAN: HUSH, WONDER WOMAN and More
Last night, DC Entertainment held the world premiere of its latest animated movie, The Death of Superman, at San Diego Comic-Con. During the panel, DC announced the 2019 slate of original animated movies, but with a twist. While DC normally does three movies per year, 2019 will have four films. As previously announced, Reign of the Supermen will be released early next year. This film is the direct sequel to The Death of Superman, fulfilling the promise of a two-part adaptation of the iconic storyline. Later next spring, DC will release Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. The next round of Star Wars novels and comics will flesh out the prequel era! We’re getting a ginormous list from Del Rey, and I’m excited! I’ve got my highlighted publications from the panel below. Queen’s Shadow By: E.K. Johnston This book will follow Padme Amidala as she transitions from queen of Naboo to senator of Naboo. E.K. Johnston wrote Ahsoka, and she did a phenomenal job with that novel, so I’m excited to see what she can do with a different character.
