We’ve heard a lot of casting stories for DC’s Birds of Prey movie, which will see Harley Quinn team up with a gang of female characters in the DC Universe. Many actresses have been tested for the ensemble, and now, two key characters have been cast.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) is set to play The Huntress, while Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground) has been cast as Black Canary. While the two characters have been portrayed in live action before, most notably on Arrow, this will serve as their debut in a movie. Still to be cast are Renee Montoya, Cassandra Cain, and the villain, who is most likely Black Mask.
Speaking of Black Mask, Variety’s Justin Kroll
says that Warner Bros. has begun to meet with actors for the villainous role. Apparently, the studio is interested in Ewan McGregor
) and Sharlto Copley
), but since meetings have just started, neither are a certainty.
‘s report says Birds of Prey
takes place in a Gotham City that “isn’t protected” by Batman. So, where is Batman? It’s possible that he’s just off on a mission with the Justice League. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Birds of Prey is set to hit theaters on February 7th, 2020.
