Cassandra Cain is one of several DC characters to make their cinematic debut in Birds of Prey, which is filling out its cast and eyeing a January production start. Now, the character has finally been cast. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco is making her feature film debut as Cassandra Cain in Birds of Prey. The actress previously guest starred in television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Veep. The Wrap has wrapped up another juicy scoop. The wings have flown towards us and preyed upon some more news about casting for the upcoming Birds of Prey movie. Rosie Perez has been cast to play the role of Renee Montoya, who was first created to appear in Batman: The Animated Series, just like future co-star Harley Quinn. DC Universe opened up New York Comic-Con in style last night, dropping plenty of news for its original shows. One of the highlights is the Harley Quinn animated series. Not only do we have our first footage from the show, but we now have an all-star voice cast. The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco is voicing Harleen Quinzel in the series, with Lake Bell playing Poison Ivy. We’ve heard a lot of casting stories for DC’s Birds of Prey movie, which will see Harley Quinn team up with a gang of female characters in the DC Universe. Many actresses have been tested for the ensemble, and now, two key characters have been cast. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) is set to play The Huntress, while Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground) has been cast as Black Canary. Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey movie has been the next DC title to head towards production. The film will see Harley Quinn team up with a slew of female characters from the DC Universe. And sure enough, the ensemble is next up on the slate, as Warner Bros. has confirmed its release date. The (currently untitled) movie is set to hit theaters on February 7th, 2020. Originally, WB set an untitled DC film for February 14th of that year. Warner Bros. previously put several Harley Quinn-centric films into development. One of these was a film pairing her with Jared Leto’s Joker, to be written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. We haven’t heard too much on this one in a while, especially with Birds of Prey being the studio’s top priority. But now, the filmmakers have provided an update.
