Spider-Man Expected to Appear in KRAVEN THE HUNTER Movie
The biggest critique surrounding Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC) is that, while these characters are prominent parts of Spider-Man lore, Spider-Man himself is absent. Even Venom had to drastically alter its origin story because, in the comics, Eddie Brock and Venom are closely tied to Spider-Man. This, along with Sony’s current deal with Marvel Studios, has led to doubt regarding Spidey appearing in any of these movies. However, that may be about to change.
Our friends at Discussing Film recently spoke with screenwriter Richard Wenk, who is working on Sony’s Kraven the Hunter movie. Wenk talks about how he is starting the process now, and how the movie will lean closely into the character’s lore. He adds that Kraven’s Last Hunt is being discussed as an influence. Most significantly, Wenk straight-up says that Kraven will come “face-to-face” with Spider-Man in the movie.
Of course, this is early days, as the script is still being written. But if this holds, then it looks like Spider-Man could find his way into the SUMC after all. It’s unclear if this will be Tom Holland’s Spidey (thus connecting it to the MCU) or another actor. Still, this is a very interesting development.
Spider-Man is pretty closely tied with Kraven in the comics (though not as much as Venom), so adapting that in a movie makes sense. But, we’ll have to wait and see.
