We recently got news the screenwriter for Aquaman is returning for a sequel. There was no official green-lighting of the sequel, so no release-date had been set at the time. But fear not, the Aquaman 2 release date is set. Courtesy of Deadline, Aquaman 2 will be released December 16, 2022. Currently, none of the original’s cast is set to return, and neither is James Wan. With how successful Aquaman was, hopefully the cast all sees the sequel worth it and return. Wan has already said he is waiting to see if the script is perfect, so we will have to wait and see for him.

Aquaman has crossed the 1.1 billion dollar mark worldwide with its box office, and is now the highest grossing DC Comics property ever, passing The Dark Knight Rises. The movie also ranks as the highest grossing superhero solo movie, passing Iron Man 3.

There was much panic surrounding Aquaman remaining in the December 2018 slot from fans originally. Many were surprised it did as well as it did, and so it’s good to see Warner Bros. giving the King of December back his slot!

There are also rumors/talks about Warner Bros and DC developing a spin-off movie based on The Trench, the creatures that attacked Arthur Curry and Mera near the climax of Aquaman. It will reportedly be written by Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald and will have a horror-angle, gearing towards some of James Wan’s horror roots. Wan is set to currently produce the spin-off.

Aquaman is directed by James Wan and stars: Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Patrik Wilson as King Orm/Ocean Master and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. Aquaman is now available on Digital and will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD March 5th. You can check out our review for the movie HERE, and stay tuned for all updates related to Aquaman 2.
