FEATURE: Rotten Tomatoes was WRONG and Netflix’s Live-Action DEATH NOTE Film is Actually Amazing
If you’re reading this on a desktop, the song “Reckless (Don’t Be So…)” by Australian Crawl should have begun to play. If you’re on a mobile device, you’ll have to click the play button to hear those dulcet tones. This song is the opener in Adam Wingard’s Death Note. Wingard has had a productive career, reaching notoriety with the horror films You’re Next, V/H/S, and Blair Witch. He’s also set to direct Godzilla vs. Kong, this October, for a 2020 release date. To say Death Note was in his wheelhouse is an understatement. But the fan reaction to the film was nothing short of toxic. Rotten Tomatoes critics weren’t a…

I Lost a Bet and Had to Watch BATMAN AND HARLEY QUINN. Hold Me While I Sob…
Have you ever made a bet? That intuition fueled guessing game that delivers the instant satisfaction of being right, or makes you fall flat on your face? I don’t make bets often; but when I do, they’re always with a purpose. In this particular instance, I made a bet with fellow WOBAM contributor Isak Wolff: if Son Goku was announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he had to review the John Goodman-starring Myst parody, PYST; if Son Goku wasn’t announced for Smash Bros., then I had to review Batman and Harley Quinn. You can guess who lost that bet. When WOBAM’s’s very own Paul Romano reviewed Batman and Harley Quinn,…

Retrospective Review: BATMAN Soundtrack by Prince
Batman and Prince go together shockingly well. The Batman character and Prince’s music and public persona are complete opposites yet somehow Prince was able to make an entire hit album to go along with the 1989 film. Batman (1989) is a true testament to how talented Prince was. It’s been nearly thirty years since the Batman film and album were released. In the thirty years since dozens of superhero films have been released. Their success at the box office and their success with critics has overshadowed Batman to point where it has become an afterthought in most people’s minds. The Dark Knight trilogy has replaced the Batman films of…

Review: THOR: THE DARK WORLD (2013)
How do you make a good movie from a weak script? It’s hard, but Thor: The Dark World manages to pull it off; albeit, with very few of the character developments viewers have grown to expect from Marvel. Once again, the cast is mostly great. The Thor films really get the right folks for the job, and it gives these characters a nice dynamic. Chris Hemsworth IS Thor. He brings all the gravitas to the hero while incorporating a greater sense of maturity to the role. Natalie Portman is good as Jane Foster, though quite underdeveloped by the weak script. Idris Elba is EPIC, Kat Dennings is a comedic genius, and Tom Hiddleston continues…
