Video Game Review: FAIRY TAIL (2020)
When I saw that Koei Tecmo were assigned on another anime licensed video game, it got my curiosity, due to their Attack on Titan game that I reviewed. But when I found out that it was going to be a game based on the manga Fairy Tail, it certainly got my attention. Unlike the Attack on Titan game, Fairy Tail does not contain a self-inserted Avatar that follows the main characters around. But like the Attack on Titan game, it does not start where the manga does Their game adaptation of Fairy Tail starts with what is arguably its main focus, The Grand Magic games, where you have the characters…

Review: BNA: BRAND NEW ANIMAL Season 1
A human-turned-tanuki named Michiru runs away to Anima City. There she hopes to get protection and answers. When she meets Shirou, a beastkin who can turn into a wolf, the answer might not lie so far away. Like A Whisker Away, I found this randomly on Netflix. It looked like it could be a lot of fun, pressed play, and here we are. Twelve episodes later, and BNA: Brand New Animal has ended up as one of my new favorite series in a long time. When a story wants to incorporate an important subject matter, the writer always takes a big risk. Insert it amateurishly and it can become jarring. That…

Review: A WHISKER AWAY (2020)
When Miyo Sasaki gets the chance to transform into a cat, she uses it with the hope of knowing more about the boy she has a crush on. Problems arrive, however, when the line between being human and cat becomes shorter. There are times where you find something at random. Be it the library or a garage sale. When it comes to A Whisker Away, it was a random scroll when I search on Netflix. I read the premise, saw the trailer, and thought it could be a cute animated movie. Luckily for me, it ended up being just that. At first, I was unsure of what to think about…

REVIEW: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
Kusuo Saiki is a high school student who has been born with powers. Saiki is continuously in trouble that can reveal his abilities. Be it his friends or the girls that fall for him for an unknown reason. Sometimes, there is a show or movie in which there are next to no words to describe it. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K fits within this category. Similar to Bobobo-bo bo-bobo, this series loves to breaks the fourth wall to the extent that there is no fourth wall. It is gags and humor galore, within every frame. The show contains two types of scenarios. Scenes that make the viewer scratch their…

PODCAST: Fire Emblem OVA Review
With the 30-year-old anniversary of the franchise, I knew that the Fire Emblem OVA would be something we’d cover, and a podcast episode would be the best way of doing so. So, I’m joined by Landon Beall and Brandon Alvarado. This is an episode filled with rants, anger against me, and straight-up laughter. Enjoy. Review: Weathering with You (Tenki no Ko)
Hodaka Morishma’s life turns upside down when he meets a mysterious girl called Hina Amano. A girl that is more then meets the eye with abilities out of the ordinary. Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) is yet another movie from Makoto Shinkai, the writer and director of Your Name. Just like the director’s previous work, the story here is about two younglings that meet each other and form some form of relationship between them, with a supernatural twist towards it. Even though this is a genre that he has tapped into many times before, this film proves that he can still work within this subgenre without making it feel…

MY HERO ACADEMIA: HEROES RISING Review – Not Very Plus Ultra
The hit anime series, My Hero Academia just released its second feature film. Heroes Rising is not canon to the story of MHA, and this is very important when viewing, so just keep that in mind when watching. Does the film go Plus Ultra or does it crash and burn? Well, let’s discuss (no spoilers). The story takes place after the Overhaul arc (season 4) in the anime. Deku has his shoot style and all of class 1-A has their provisional licenses. The setting is pretty interesting. A small town recently lost their hero, and U.A. High School sends their students to monitor the area. At least until a pro is…

Review: Your Name (Kimi no Na wa)
Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) follows Mitshua Miyamizu and Taki Tachibana, two younglings who end up switching bodies with one and other, without any knowledge on what had transpired. When Your Name released in 2016, it took the world by storm. It became one of the biggest financial and critical successes for an anime movie, rivaling the likes of Studio Ghibli. Romantic dramas, on how a boy and a girl meet each other; while they find something new with their life isn’t anything new. But that does not mean that you can’t find a way to be unique with your approach to it. Makoto Shinkai’s [writer/director] approach with this…

PRINCESS MONONOKE Retrospective Review
In the 14th century, the harmony that humans, animals and gods have enjoyed begins to crumble. The protagonist, young Ashitaka – infected by an animal attack, seeks a cure from the deer-like god Shishigami. In his travels, he sees humans ravaging the earth, bringing down the wrath of wolf god Moro and his human companion Princess Mononoke. Her attempts to broker peace between her and the humans brings only conflict. Official synopsis of Princess Mononoke When it comes to directors, everyone has a favorite. For some of you it’s Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) , others, it is the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War). For me, it’s director Hayao Miyazaki –…
