Composer Michael Giacchino has collaborated a few times with Marvel Studios in recent years. He created the scores for Doctor Strange and Spider-Man: Homecoming, while he composed the theme for Marvel’s current opening logo. Now, he’s returning to the MCU for his next big project. Marvel’s THE ETERNALS Recruits Director Chloe Zhao
The Eternals is one of several Marvel Studios movies in development, making up its post-Avengers 4 future. The film previously got a pair of screenwriters, and now, a director has been brought on board. Filmmaker Chloe Zhao (The Rider) has signed on to direct The Eternals. Other contenders for the job included Nicole Kassell (HBO’s Watchmen), Travis Knight (Bumblebee), and Cristina Gallego & Ciro Guerra (Birds of Passage). Zhao was also up for directing Marvel’s Black Widow, before Cate Shortland got the gig. Zhao will be directing from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. We’ve got the deets on the release date for the Antman and The Wasp, as well as special features, and deleted scenes. Digital release for the movie will be October 2nd, with the physical copies of the movies being released October 16th. We have another box office update for Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp, which has achieved one more major milestone. The sequel has now surpassed the $600 million mark worldwide. It is currently at $214.3 million domestically and $386.7 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $601 million. It is the 8th Marvel Studios movie in a row to pass $600 million, and this puts it noticeably higher than the first Ant-Man ($519 million). It cannot be easy to be a Guardians of the Galaxy fan, considering the drama about James Gunn, but also the cast that is far from happy. This week, the Marvel sequel finally hit theaters in China, and it’s already off to a great start. This weekend, Ant-Man and The Wasp grossed an estimated $71.2 million overseas, fueled by a $68 million opening in China. This gives it the fourth biggest Marvel Studios opening in the nation, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Captain America: Civil War.
