NBC Sets Premiere Date for POWERLESS Series
Joining the DC Entertainment television slate next year is Powerless, a workplace comedy series on NBC. The show focuses on an insurance company in the DC Universe, as we see through the eyes of these ordinary and, well, powerless people. Powerless stars Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Christina Kirk, and Ron Funches. Now, we finally know when exactly the series begins. NBC has announced that Powerless will premiere on Thursday, February 2nd at 8:30 PM EST. Marc Guggenheim Offers Update on FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY and Teases VIXEN Announcement
In addition to the live action shows on The CW, the network is also exploring the Arrowverse in animated form on the CW Seed app. Vixen recently concluded its second season, while Freedom Fighters: The Ray is premiering sometime next year. Following this week’s midseason finale, which kicked off The CW’s big “Heroes vs. Aliens” crossover event, Supergirl is now on winter break. Warner Bros. Shifts AQUAMAN Release to Fall 2018
Warner Bros. originally slated DC Films’ Aquaman for release on July 27th, 2018. The James Wan-directed movie will star Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe. However, the studio has now moved the film to a later date. It has been announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Aquaman will now hit theaters on October 5th, 2018 in 3D and IMAX. No reason for the delay was given, and there’s no indication of production being pushed back. The film is expected to begin shooting early next year. IGN has premiered the official trailer for Justice League Dark, the next installment in DC Entertainment’s line of original animated movies. In this film, Batman seeks the assistance of John Constantine to fight evil supernatural forces. Constantine then forms a team of other magical heroes, such as Zatanna and Swamp Thing. Perhaps the biggest revelation from the trailer is the film’s MPAA rating. Traditionally, DC’s animated movies are PG-13, a trend that broke this year with the R-rated Batman: The Killing Joke. Warner Bros. Hires Screenwriter for Harley Quinn-Led DC Female Ensemble Film
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Warner Bros. is developing a new DC film starring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. The movie is not a solo spin-off, but rather an ensemble starring multiple female characters from the DC Universe. Batgirl and the Birds of Prey were named as possible additions. Now, we know who’s writing the script. According to The Wrap, screenwriter Christina Hodson is working on the untitled Harley Quinn movie’s script. After popping up on the Black List three times, Hodson has become a hot name in the screenwriting business. The CW Orders More Episodes for Season 2 of DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW
Unlike its other DC Comics shows, The CW did not order a full 22 episodes for Legends of Tomorrow‘s second season. The show, which premiered during midseason last year, returned this fall with only a 13 episode order. However, in a sign of confidence, The CW has ordered more episode for this season – but it’s still less than the norm. It has been announced (via THR) that The CW has ordered four more episodes for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this season. YOUNG JUSTICE Season 3 is Officially Happening
The fan-favorite Young Justice animated series ran for two seasons on Cartoon Network, before its cancellation in 2013. The decision to end the show – after a major cliffhanger ending, no less – was a controversial one, and in the years since, fans have campaigned tirelessly for a revival. At long last, their pleas have been answered. Warner Bros. has confirmed that a third season of Young Justice is now in production. A premiere date and network have yet to be announced.
