J.J. Abrams Announces Start of Production on STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Last week, Lucasfilm announced the cast for Star Wars Episode IX. The film will bring back everyone from Mark Hamill to Daisy Ridley to Billy Dee Williams, while Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, and Naomi Ackie are playing new characters. Additionally, the late Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa will return via unused footage from The Force Awakens. Now, production has begun. Director J.J. Abrams has announced the start of filming for Episode IX via Twitter. He thanks saga creator George Lucas and The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson for their contributions, while he shares his bittersweetness about making the movie without Carrie Fisher. In our latest installment of Movie News Bits, we have some Cowboy Ninja Viking casting news, an update on Flashpoint, Sin City news, a possible X-Force villain, and a trailer for the next Pokémon movie. Quantico star Priyanka Chopra is in talks to join Universal’s Cowboy Ninja Viking, starring Chris Pratt and directed by Michelle MacLaren. If a deal closes, Chopra will play Sara Nix, a psychologist who monitors Duncan (Pratt) and may or may not develop feelings for him. DC’s SUPER PETS Getting an Animated Movie from Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. has been beefing up its slate of animated DC movies for theaters, with The LEGO Batman Movie releasing last year and Teen Titans GO! To the Movies currently playing at a theater near you. And now, another movie has entered development. According to Collider, LEGO Batman scribe Jared Stern is writing a Super Pets movie, which unites the pets of various DC characters. In the comics, the Legion of Super-Pets consisted of characters like Krypto, Streaky, Bat-Cow, any many more. The lineup for this movie is unknown at this time. CONSTANTINE: CITY OF DEMONS Movie Coming to Blu-Ray This Fall
CW Seed’s third animated DC series, Constantine: City of Demons, premiered earlier this year. The series brings Matt Ryan’s John Constantine back into the spotlight, despite not being a continuation of the NBC series. While we’ve been waiting on a second season of the show, it looks like that’ll come in the form of a movie. Warner Bros. has announced that Constantine: City of Demons will be released as a movie on Tuesday, October 9th on Blu-Ray, 4K, and digital. JOKER Targeting Two More Actors for its Cast
Director Todd Phillips’ Joker origin movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix, is currently filling out its supporting cast. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Francis Conroy are all in negotiations to join the film. And now, we have word of two more actors joining. IRON FIST Season 2 Episode Count is Shorter than Usual for Marvel Netflix Shows
For the past few days, the Iron Fist Twitter account has sent out one tweet per day revealing an episode title from the show’s second season. Well, the tweets have ended, and they reveal something very interesting about the new season. Iron Fist season two will only have 10 episodes. With the exception of The Defenders (which ran for 8 episodes), this is the shortest Marvel Netflix season yet. Every season from the other five shows ran for 13 episodes. ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Passes First Film Domestically, Still Behind Overseas
Ant-Man and The Wasp has been out in the United States and other markets for close to a month now, and today, we have an update on where the Marvel sequel stands in comparison to the original. Per Box Office Mojo, the film has passed the first Ant-Man domestically, hitting $183.1 million this weekend, against the original’s $180.2 million. However, when it comes to overseas, Ant-Man and The Wasp is still trailing, grossing $211.1 million vs. the first’s $339.1 million. AQUAMAN Will Reportedly Have a Post-Credits Scene
Post- and mid-credits scenes are becoming more and more common in blockbuster films. But while Suicide Squad and Justice League had additional scenes, DC Films’ other three titles did not. Thus, fans have wondered if we should expect more movies to follow suit. And if this new report is to be believed, DC’s next movie will do it.
