Reshoots Led to X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX and NEW MUTANTS Delays
This week, Fox made the surprise announcement that two X-Men centric films have been pushed back. Dark Phoenix, which was scheduled for this fall, will now release on Valentines Day 2019. Meanwhile, The New Mutants (which was already delayed 10 months) was moved to August 2nd, 2019. Naturally, this led to fans speculating as to why these delays were made. Now, we have an answer. According to Collider, Fox delayed Dark Phoenix to allow more time for reshoots and post-production. Following a test screening, it was decided that the film should undergo additional filming. X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Pushed Back to 2019, NEW MUTANTS Delayed Again
20th Century Fox has updated its release schedule, and in the shakeup, two X-Men films have been pushed back. X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which was originally slated for a November 2nd release this year, will now hit theaters on February 14th, 2019. No reason was given for the delay. However, director Simon Kinberg previously said that he wanted plenty of post-production time to fully realize the CGI, so that may have influenced the move. With Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay out on digital this week, Warner Bros. has begun promotion of its next animated DC movie, The Death of Superman. DEADPOOL Animated Series Loses FX and Donald Glover
Last year, it was announced that FX and Marvel Television were teaming up to create an adult animated series starring Deadpool. Donald and Stephen Glover came on board as showrunners for the 10-episode series, which was scheduled to launch this year on FXX. Unfortunately, that’s no longer happening. Casting is currently underway on Sony’s Men in Black spinoff, which will expand the franchise beyond the Will Smith trilogy. Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star, with F. Gary Gray attached to direct. Now, the film has found its female lead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tessa Thompson will star in the new Men in Black.
