AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Wins a Mighty Second Weekend
As expected, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has had a big second weekend. In fact, it has the second-biggest sophomore weekend in history. Per THR, Infinity War is grossing an estimated $112.5 million this weekend. This marks a 56% drop from its opening weekend, which is on par with past Marvel movies. This narrowly beats Black Panther ($111.7 million) for second place, and it’s behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million). Everyone knew that Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War would easily pass $1 billion at the worldwide box office. But what people (probably) didn’t expect was just how fast it’d achieve that benchmark. Per Deadline, Infinity War hit $974.5 million worldwide on Friday, and it will pass the billion mark sometime today. Marvel Begins the Search for a BLACK WIDOW Director
With Avengers: Infinity War in theaters now and Avengers 4 in post-production, Marvel Studios is putting together a slate for a fourth Phase of movies. Among these is the long-awaited Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson and written by Jac Schaeffer. Now, the studio has begun the search for a director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is looking for a female director to take on Black Widow. So far, the studio has met with filmmakers Deniz Gamze Ergüven (Mustang), Chloé Zhao (The Rider), Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), and several others.
