FEATURE: Why the DC Films Were Destined to Fail
Two weeks ago I wrote a piece about the Future of the DC films. After seeing what a mess Justice League seems to be at the box office, and what happened before and after the film’s release, I think it’s time to talk about the elephant in the room. Why the DC Films were destined to fail. To get a complete understanding of what’s happening with The DC Extended Universe, we’re going to have to do some research. We can trace things back all the way to 2011 with the release of Green Lantern: this was Warner Bros. first attempt at a Cinematic Universe. They tried their best to copy Marvel.…

Astonishing Marvels Staff Weighs In: Thor Ragnarok
Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is the latest sequel to reach box office hit acclamation, and has surpassed $700 million worldwide. The film has also successfully revived the Thor franchise, turning the god of thunder into a suave, hysterical leader of Asgard. What did we here at Astonishing Marvels think of Thor: Ragnarok? Look below to see the crew’s reviews, and check out Mike’s full review HERE. Michael:“Thor: Ragnarok takes everything we know about the character and turns it on its head. SUICIDE SQUAD: That Joker Batsuit Was Never Actually in the Movie
There was a lot of merchandise released for the Suicide Squad movie last year, but there was one thing that caught fans’ attention. Hot Toys released a figure of Joker wearing a Batman suit, covered in classic Joker colors and graffiti. Funko released a Pop! figure with the same design for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. This Batsuit never appeared in Suicide Squad, and considering all that has been cut from the movie, was it ever going to? Turns out it wasn’t. Writer-director David Ayer set the record straight on Twitter, saying that the Joker Batsuit was never actually made for the movie. Rather, it’s just a toy gimmick. Not…

JUSTICE LEAGUE Falls to Second Place This Weekend, Nears $500 Million Worldwide
DC Films’ Justice League has not only earned mixed reviews from critics, but it has struggled at the box office too. Its $94 million opening weekend was the franchise’s lowest to date, while it is supposed to make at least $700 million worldwide if it were to break even. We don’t know if that’s happening yet, but we have the estimates from its second weekend. Per Box Office Mojo, Justice League grossed an estimated $40.7 million over the three-day weekend $59.6 million over five days, putting it in second place behind Pixar’s Coco ($49 million/$71.2 million). This is a nearly 57% drop from its opening weekend; that’s a bigger drop than Wonder…

FEATURE: Five Villains We Want to See in DC Films’ Injustice League
[Warning: The Following Contains Some SPOILERS From Justice League.] The Injustice League is one of several villain teams in the DC Universe, where some of the world’s greatest antagonists join forces to take on the Justice League. And based on the post-credits scene for Justice League, it looks like that’s the plan for the future. In the scene, Deathstroke/Slade Wilson meets with Lex Luthor, who just broke out of prison. Lex talks about the formation of the Justice League, and he asks Slade, “Shouldn’t we have a league of our own?” This perfectly sets up the Injustice League for a sequel, if it happens. We can definitely expect Lex and…
