NBC’s POWERLESS Loses its Creator/Showrunner
DC Entertainment’s next television show, Powerless, will air on NBC during midseason next year. The workplace comedy centers on an insurance company and its, well, powerless workers in the middle of the DC Universe. It has been announced (via Deadline) that creator, executive producer and showrunner Ben Queen has dropped out of Powerless. AQUAMAN Screenwriter Teases Action Sequences and More
Last month, Will Beall was hired to write the latest draft for Aquaman, based on an “extensive” story treatment by director James Wan and DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns. The screenwriter spoke with /Film at the Television Critics Association (TCA) tour recently, and inevitably, Aquaman came up. Regarding the setting of the DC movie’s action scenes, Beall reveals that we’ll see some action both underwater and on land. “I can tell you that not all of the action takes place underwater. Some of the most fun action in the movie actually takes place on dry land.” He then confirms that he’s still working on the script with Wan and Johns,…

SUICIDE SQUAD Retains #1 Spot with $43.8 Million in Second Weekend
Despite negative reviews from critics, Suicide Squad opened with a record-breaking $133.7 million opening last weekend. Now, the DC film is in its second weekend of release, where it had to defend its #1 position from newcomers Sausage Party and Pete’s Dragon. How did Suicide Squad fare? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Suicide Squad held on to the top spot this weekend with an estimated $43.8 million gross in North America. The downside? That’s a 67% drop from its opening weekend. While it’s not as big a second-weekend drop as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (69%), it’s bigger than Man of Steel (65%). It’s also one of the biggest second-weekend declines for…

THE FLASH Star Ezra Miller Teases “Extremely Fun” DC Film
We’ll receive a proper introduction to Ezra Miller’s Flash in Justice League, but after that, the Scarlet Speedster is headlining his own film, which reportedly begins production next year in London. Rick Famuyiwa is directing the movie, which will co-star Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. In an interview with MTV News, Miller comments on the tone of The Flash, while praising his director and co-star. Miller says that the plan is for The Flash to be an “extremely fun” and “deeply human” installment of the DC Extended Universe, and he has nothing but positive things to say about Famuyiwa. “I think there’s just an intention to make something extremely fun…
