DC Reportedly Adapting BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN As a Two-Part Animated Movie
DC Entertainment has looked to Batman stories when it comes to much of its animated movie slate. Now, it appears that the company is tackling one of the Dark Knight’s most iconic tales for its next animated event. Our friend Mario at Revenge of the Fans has learned that an animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween is in the works. This will be told in two parts, similar to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and The Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen. Also, this is unlikely to be set in the shared DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU). This contrasts the Batman: Hush movie, which looks to be bringing back…

THE BATMAN Now Eyeing a November Production Start
Last we heard on The Batman, writer-director Matt Reeves said that he was hoping to start shooting in the spring or summer of 2019. Then, we received word that Warner Bros. is in no rush to release the movie, so it could be until 2021 or later before it hits theaters. Basically, Reeves and the studio want to take all the time needed to perfect the script before camera begin rolling. Now, we have a new production update. In The Hollywood Reporter‘s first Heat Vision newsletter of the year, writer Borys Kit shares a tidbit on The Batman. Apparently, the studio is now wanting to start filming in November of…

The CW Sets Pilot Order for BATWOMAN
Ruby Rose’s Batwoman made her debut in the three-part “Elseworlds” Arrowverse crossover on The CW. In that story, Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl travel to Gotham City to confront Dr. John Deegan over his changes to reality. Along the way, they meet Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, who has become Gotham’s new vigilante after the mysterious disappearance of Batman (and Bruce Wayne). Before “Elseworlds,” it was reported that The CW had plans for a Batwoman spinoff series. Now, it’s moving forward. The CW has issued an official pilot order for Batwoman, written by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries). David Nutter will direct; he previously helmed the pilots for Smallville, Arrow, and…

AQUAMAN is a Pulp Fiction Comic Book Movie
I do not lightly say that Aquaman is a Homeric epic, a paragon of Pulp Fiction storytelling, a complete hero’s journey. It would be so simple to call it another superhero movie following the established procedures set by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Christopher Nolan’s Batman, or Fox’s X-Men universe. Instead, what is presented is a story told often in comic books, The Pulp Fiction swordsman of Camelot. It follows in the footsteps of The Mummy, Indiana Jones, The Princess Bride, Star Wars, Buck Rogers, Errol Flynn and all the dashing swordsmen who graced the comic book pages of the early 1920s and 30s. In many ways, the…

AQUAMAN Surfs Past $800 Million; $1 Billion Worldwide Imminent
DC Films’ Aquaman continues to overperform at the box office, and today, it has passed a key milestone that sets it on track for a new high in the franchise. Aquaman has now surpassed Wonder Woman as the second highest grossing DC film worldwide, with $822.9 million. This includes a massive $606 million from overseas. The only title that has made more is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which grossed $873 million in 2016. However, at the rate it’s going, Aquaman will soon surpass that one. Not only that, but it will reach a milestone met by few comic book movies, especially from DC. Assuming that the film continues…

Why Aquaman is Actually One of DC’s Best Characters
Aquaman has been one of DC’s most prominent heroes throughout its history. He has been the King of Atlantis, a founding member of the Justice League, and a defender of the Earth. Despite this, Aquaman has been frequently seen as a joke among the mainstream audience. Whether it’s the bright orange costume or his ability to talk to fish, a lot of people just don’t take him seriously. Well, I personally have been a fan of Aquaman forever. I always thought that he was a fascinating character. In fact, he’s one of my favorite characters in the DC Universe. Here, I will break down why I believe that. He’s a…

Comic Review: THRONE OF ATLANTIS
Geoff Johns’ New 52 run on Aquaman created a lot of iconic moments and stories for the character. Perhaps the biggest is “Throne of Atlantis,” pits Arthur Curry and the Justice League against his half-brother Orm, the new king of Atlantis. Orm believes that the surface world is a threat, and he launches a huge assault. The comic was adapted into the 2015 animated movie Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, and elements are featured in the Aquaman film. Simply put, “Throne of Atlantis” is one of the best storylines in the New 52 era. It features strong writing from Johns and amazing artwork from Ivan Reis. The character interactions are…
