ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Falls to #2 in its Second Weekend
Ant-Man and The Wasp is now in its second weekend, where it faces off against new competitors Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper. The Marvel Studios sequel still held its own, but it still had a larger-than-usual drop for a MCU movie. Per Box Office Mojo, Ant-Man and The Wasp grossed $29.1 million this weekend, putting it in second place behind Hotel Transylvania 3‘s $44.1 million. This gives the movie a 61.6% drop from its opening weekend. This puts it right behind Spider-Man: Homecoming (62.2%) as one of the largest second-weekend drops in the entire MCU. It’s not all bad news, however. Ant-Man and The Wasp reached $133.1…

Comic Review: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 (2018)
[Warning: The Following Contains SPOILERS From Amazing Spider-Man #1.] One of Marvel Comics’ flagship titles, The Amazing Spider-Man has been relaunched multiple times in the past few years, with Dan Slott writing for a decade. Well, that changes this year. In addition to yet another #1 relaunch, the series now has a new creative team. Nick Spencer is writing, with Ryan Ottley on artwork. I’l be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve read a Spider-Man comic that actually excited me. Whether it was the Superior Spider-Man arc or depicting Peter Parker as a billionaire, very little in recent comics have captured my interest. Last year’s Peter Parker: The Spectacular…

VENOM Smiles in New Movie Still; Director Ruben Fleischer Talks Horror Influence
As part of Entertainment Weekly‘s San Diego Comic-Con coverage, the magazine is exploring the world of Sony’s new Marvel-inspired movie Venom. And with that, we have some new details and imagery. In an interview with EW, star Tom Hardy talks about shifting from supervillain to superhero (well, somewhat) for this latest role. He admits that Venom is the “coolest” looking Marvel character to him, but he also likes his swagger and attitude. More specifically, Hardy wanted to play a “hero” that had a complicated past and iffy morals. Hardy and director Ruben Fleischer explain that with the Symbiote, Eddie Brock will be a reluctant hero, and the two have to…

BLACK WIDOW Movie Recruits Director Cate Shortland
For the past few months, Marvel Studios has been looking at directors for its long-awaited Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson. The studio has been adamant about having a female director for this particular film. Last we heard, Lore filmmaker Cate Shortland was the frontrunner to take the job. Now, it’s happening. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shortland has signed on to direct Black Widow. The hire comes after over 70 directors were considered. Amma Asante (A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) were the finalists, while Melanie Laurent (Galveston) and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) came close too. But Scarlett Johansson was a big fan of Shortland, which clearly gave…

Mystery Marvel Film Moves Up to February 2021
Disney previously set three release dates for unknown Marvel Studios movies in the year 2021. One one of the given dates was July 30th. Well, whatever movie that is, it now looks like we’ll be seeing it sooner. As part of its latest schedule shakeup (via Box Office Mojo), the untitled Marvel movie is now scheduled for release on February 12th, 2021. We don’t really know anything more beyond that. But considering how successful Black Panther was in the February slot this year, I would bet money on this date being the inevitable sequel. Then again, they also have a February date for 2022, so it could go either way.…

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Casts J.B. Smoove in Lead Role
Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home recently began production. We hadn’t heard too much about casting for new characters, beyond Jake Gyllenhaal being in talks to play the villain Mysterio. However, that’s about to change, and we have a new addition to the sequel’s cast. According to Deadline, Curb Your Enthusiasm actor J.B. Smoove has joined Spider-Man: Far From Home. His character is currently unknown, but he is said to be playing a lead role in the sequel. Funnily enough, Smoove played Peter Parker’s driving instructor in a Spider-Man: Homecoming Audi promo last year. However, it’d be surprising if they gave Peter’s driving instructor a lead role in a full movie,…
