Following the success of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. put several potential films starring the character into development. There’s the direct sequel from filmmaker Gavin O’Conner, while David Ayer was attached to Gotham City Sirens. Then there’s a Birds of Prey-type movie and Harley Quinn vs. The Joker. Thanos’ Origin Will Be Told in New Novel
While Thanos is essentially be the main character in Avengers: Infinity War, we’re apparently not going to see his origin story play out in detail. With the film running for about 2 and a half hours and featuring dozens of other Marvel characters, this decision makes sense. But fortunately, we’ll learn all about Thanos’ origin – just in a different medium. It has been announced (via io9) that this fall will see the release of a new tie-in novel. Welcome to our latest installment of Movie News Bits. Today, we have some new details on Marvel Studios’ next two films, why Jeff Wadlow’s X-Force didn’t happen, and confirmation of an Atomic Blonde sequel. Meanwhile, Jake Gyllenhaal addresses those Batman rumors. Literally every single Marvel Studios movie so far has been rated PG-13, and Avengers: Infinity War is no exception. AQUAMAN Casts Randall Park During Reshoots
DC Films’ Aquaman wrapped production last year, but the movie is currently in the final stages of reshoots. During these reshoots, it turns out that a new character has been added to the cast. Director James Wan announced on Twitter that actor Randall Park has joined Aquaman as Dr. Shin. In the comics, Dr. Stephen Shin is a scientist who is very knowledgeable of Atlantis, and he helps young Arthur Curry to develop his powers. He later betrays Arthur while trying to find the location of Atlantis. It’s unknown exactly how much of this will be adapted into the movie. Netflix Renews JESSICA JONES for Season 3
Marvel premiered the second season of its acclaimed series Jessica Jones last month on Netflix. The show is arguably the most acclaimed Marvel/Netflix series yet. So, it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that season three is a go. Netflix has announced (via THR) that Jessica Jones has been renewed for a third season. No word yet on a release date or when the season will begin production. Currently, Marvel has yet to confirm its Netflix slate for 2019 (which is expected to include new seasons of Iron Fist and The Punisher), so that’s a possibility. Avengers: Infinity War has already been expected to be a massive hit. Ticket presales have been through the roof, trailer views have been incredible, and the film is already tracking for a $200 million+ opening. Now, the movie is setting a new record on advance ticket sales. Dwayne Johnson Says BLACK ADAM Movie Could Start Production Next Year
It’s been a while since we heard anything about DC’s Black Adam movie. Originally attached to play the character in Shazam! for nearly a decade, Dwayne Johnson will now headline his own film. Screenwriter Adam Sztykiel was hired to tackle the script last year, while a director hasn’t been brought on yet. However, we now have a hopeful update.
