Suicide Squad recently concluded its fifth weekend of release, and the DC film continues to be a box office hit. Over the four-day Labor Day weekend, the movie grossed $12.7 million, maintaining its #2 position. The film is now at $300.1 million domestically and $378.1 million. This brings its worldwide total to $678.2 million. Suicide Squad has now surpassed Man of Steel as the second biggest installment of the DC Extended Universe, both domestically and worldwide. Earlier this summer, Greg Berlanti confirmed that he was developing a movie starring DC’s Booster Gold, with the potential to direct. Berlanti is known for his work on all four of The CW’s DC television shows, which make up the Arrowverse. Booster Gold will mark his second DC movie, following 2011’s Green Lantern. Unfortunately, it sounds like Booster Gold will be completely separate from the rest of Warner Bros.’ DC films. Metallo Will Battle SUPERGIRL and Superman in Season 2
Superman will be stopping by in the first two episodes of Supergirl‘s second season. However, he will be bringing along one of his classic villains: John Corben, aka Metallo. According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Frederick Schmidt has been cast as Metallo on Supergirl. The character will appear in at least two episodes, including the season two premiere. This version of Corben is described as an international assassin who “…is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl and Superman.” A “shadow” organization then intervenes, transforming Corben into the villain Metallo. Lionsgate is Bringing Former DC Title THE MONOLITH to the Big Screen
Back in 2004 and 2005, DC Comics published a series titled The Monolith. Created by writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, the series ran for twelve issues until it was canceled, due to poor sales. DC later relinquished the rights to the property, which reverted back to Palmiotti and Gray. A collection of the series was published by Image Comics in 2012. Suicide Squad held onto the top spot at the North American box office for three weekends in a row – the first installment of the DC Extended Universe to do so. However, with horror thriller Don’t Breathe drastically overperforming in its opening weekend, it’s time for the Squad to move down to second place. Suicide Squad is entering its fourth weekend of release. After three weeks at the top spot, the DC film is expected to go down to #2, as horror thriller Don’t Breathe is on track to open with #1.
