Despite negative reviews from critics and that 67% drop in its second weekend, DC Films’ Suicide Squad has turned out to be an indisputable box office hit. It has had strong legs in every subsequent weekend, and last week, the movie surpassed $700 million worldwide. Now, we have the box office totals from its seventh weekend of release. According to Box Office Mojo, Suicide Squad grossed an estimated $4.7 million this weekend. This is only a $17.7% drop from last week, and the number brings the film to #7 on this weekend’s top ten. JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Reveals First Look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon
Today is officially Batman Day, and to celebrate, Zack Snyder has quite the present. The Justice League director has tweeted a new image from the film, and it features a first glimpse at J.K. Simmons as key Batman supporting character James Gordon, the police commissioner of Gotham City. Simmons recently wrapped filming his “small role” in Justice League, and the plan is for Gordon to appear in several more DC movies. For example, don’t be surprised if Simmons is in Ben Affleck’s Batman film. SUPERGIRL Casts Routlette as LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Adds a Second Obsidian
We’re less than a month away from the premiere of Supergirl‘s second season, this time on The CW. Today, we have some news on the latest DC villain to take on Kara Zor-El. ComicBook has confirmed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Dichen Lachman will play DC’s Roulette, aka Veronica Sinclair, on Supergirl. Roulette runs an underground alien fight club in National City, and as you might predict, she wants Supergirl to get involved. CONSTANTINE is Finally Coming to Blu-Ray This Fall
While DC Entertainment’s Constantine show was well received by fans, NBC canceled it after just one season. This spawned a #SaveConstantine movement in hopes of another network picking it up for a second season. Matt Ryan went on to reprise the John Constantine role on an episode of Arrow, while rumors of his future in the Arrowverse continue. Additionally, Ryan is voicing the character in the Justice League Dark animated movie. While we continue to wait and see about Constantine‘s future, the series is finally coming to home video. First Look at Batman’s New Tactical Suit from JUSTICE LEAGUE
As revealed in the movie’s set visit reports earlier this year, Batman will be wearing two new costumes in Justice League. The first one, seen in the San Diego Comic-Con group photo, is pretty much a tweaked version of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice suit, just with some armor plating and a new cowl. Suicide Squad is now in its sixth weekend of release. So far, the DC film has had solid legs at the box office, surpassing $300 million domestically last week. This weekend, Warner Bros.’ Sully and other new releases came in, while Don’t Breathe is still doing well. How has Squad performed this weekend? Casting is well underway for Warner Bros.’ The Flash movie. Ezra Miller reprises his role as the Scarlet Speedster, with Kiersey Clemons playing Iris West. Rick Famuyiwa is directing.
