The CW Renews All Five DC Shows and RIVERDALE for Next Season
The CW has officially announced that ten of its shows have been picked up for new seasons. These include six comic book adaptations. Arrow, the show that launched the network’s Arrowverse has been renewed for a seventh season. Midseason hit Black Lightning, based on the DC comic, will be back for a second season. Fellow DC adaptations Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow will return for fourth seasons. It was previously announced that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine will be a series regular on the latter show next season. The Flash has been renewed for a fifth season. In December 2013, we launched Watchtower of Babel News, a blog focused on DC Entertainment’s films, television shows, and so much more. Our network then launched a Marvel-centric sister site, Astonishing Marvels, in April 2017. But now, the two sites have merged to give you everything in one place. We have less than two months until the end of Arrow‘s sixth season. While we wait on an official renewal for next season, we have news about an exciting guest star for the finale. Casting is well underway for Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman sequel, which sees the return of director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot. Kristen Wigg will play the villain Cheetah, while several characters from the first film are rumored to be back. Now, we have another addition. Reshoots Led to X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX and NEW MUTANTS Delays
This week, Fox made the surprise announcement that two X-Men centric films have been pushed back. Dark Phoenix, which was scheduled for this fall, will now release on Valentines Day 2019. Meanwhile, The New Mutants (which was already delayed 10 months) was moved to August 2nd, 2019. Naturally, this led to fans speculating as to why these delays were made. Now, we have an answer. According to Collider, Fox delayed Dark Phoenix to allow more time for reshoots and post-production. Following a test screening, it was decided that the film should undergo additional filming. With Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay out on digital this week, Warner Bros. has begun promotion of its next animated DC movie, The Death of Superman. The film, which is set in the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU), is the second animated adaptation of the iconic storyline. Now, we have a voice cast, courtesy of TV Insider. Today, Marvel Studios announced the start of production on its next blockbuster, Captain Marvel. The press release confirmed a slew of details, such as filming locations. DEADPOOL Animated Series Loses FX and Donald Glover
Last year, it was announced that FX and Marvel Television were teaming up to create an adult animated series starring Deadpool. Donald and Stephen Glover came on board as showrunners for the 10-episode series, which was scheduled to launch this year on FXX. Unfortunately, that’s no longer happening. FX has announced today (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the network and the Glovers are no longer attached to Deadpool.
