Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal Clarify – Sony's SPIDER-MAN "Spinoffs" Are Separate from the MCU
Originally, it was reported that Sony’s slate of films based on Spider-Man characters, including Venom and Silver & Black, would be set in their own universe, rather than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige confirmed this in interviews, saying that Marvel Studios isn’t involved. However, Sony’s Amy Pascal strongly implied in a recent interview that these projects do, in fact, take place in the MCU. Clearly, this confused a lot of people. But now, we have clarification. Dazzler Will Appear in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX
After much speculation, 20th Century Fox recently confirmed the main cast and director of its next main X-Men film, Dark Phoenix. Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with the sequel, which will see the return of cast members Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler). Also, Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the villain, an alien empress called Lilandra. Now, we have confirmation of another mutant joining the film. Fox Sets Premiere Dates for New Seasons of GOTHAM and LUCIFER
Both of Fox’s DC/Vertigo shows, Gotham and Lucifer, are returning for new seasons next fall. But the shows’ timeslots will be different next year. Gotham is moving to Thursday nights at 8 PM EST, while Lucifer will move up one hour to 8 PM EST on Mondays. And now, we have the exact premiere dates. Fox has confirmed (via TV Line) that Gotham will premiere its fourth season on Thursday, September 28th at 8 PM EST. Following the success of FX’s Legion, Marvel Television is bringing another X-Men-related story to the small screen. Fox’s The Gifted tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. WONDER WOMAN Surpasses $600 Million at Worldwide Box Office
Another day, another box office milestone surpassed by DC Films’ latest blockbuster, Wonder Woman. Today, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the critically acclaimed superhero movie surpassed the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office. To date, Wonder Woman has grossed $289.2 million in North America and $312.4 million overseas. This brings its worldwide total to $601.6 million. Later this week, it will surpass Mamma Mia! BATMAN AND HARLEY QUINN to Screen in Theaters for One Night
Warner Bros. Animation collaborated with Fathom Events last year to screen two DC movies in theaters – Batman: The Killing Joke and Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. The former had a two-night run in cinemas, while the latter was just a one-night event. Now, another DC title is getting the theatrical treatment. Earlier this year, Matt Reeves signed on to direct and produce The Batman for Warner Bros. and DC Films. Animated SPIDER-MAN Movie Casts Mahershala Ali and Brian Tyree Henry
In addition to Sony’s tentative new Spider-Man trilogy and a slew of spin-offs, the studio is developing an animated movie starring Miles Morales. The still-untitled film, produced by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, will star Shameik Moore as Miles, with Liev Schrieber playing the villain. Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey are directing. HBO Moving Forward with WATCHMEN Series; Damon Lindelof May Develop
A couple years ago, it was revealed that Watchmen director Zack Snyder was talking with HBO about developing a television adaptation of the story. Since then, we didn’t get any updates, and Snyder had been busy with Batman v Superman and Justice League. (He left post-production work on the latter to deal with a family tragedy.) But now, HBO is moving forward with the series – without Snyder. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damon Lindelof is in talks to develop a Watchmen show for HBO.
