LUKE CAGE Season 2 Begins Production
After a very successful first season, Netflix renewed Marvel’s Luke Cage for a second season. Luke’s adventures continue in The Defenders crossover miniseries this year, but fans are still excited to see another standalone story for the Power Man. And now, it looks like production is underway. According to On Location Vacation, season two of Luke Cage began filming this week in New York City. As of Tuesday, it is shooting in studio at Broadway Stages in Brooklyn. Patty Jenkins Not Signed on for WONDER WOMAN Sequel…Yet
Wonder Woman opened this past weekend with a big $103.3 million gross, and the film has been earning rave reviews from both critics and audiences. So, you would expect Warner Bros. to get a sequel on the fast track ASAP. Star Gal Gadot has a sequel in her contract, but as of this writing, director Patty Jenkins has yet to sign on. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins only signed on for one Wonder Woman movie; a standard practice for directors who are making a big budget tentpole for the first time. Latest Seasons of THE FLASH and ARROW Coming to Blu-Ray This Fall
The Flash and Arrow recently concluded their third and fifth seasons, respectively, on The CW. For those who still need to catch up (and don’t have Netflix), you’ll be happy to know that both seasons are coming to home video later this fall. The Flash: The Complete Third Season hits DVD and Blu-Ray on September 5th, while Arrow: The Complete Fifth Season arrives on September 19th. LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Casts Tala Ashe as New DC Superhero
As expected, Legends of Tomorrow will add new DC heroes to the Waverider Crew for its third season. Producer Marc Guggenheim previously teased the introduction of a character who was not created for the comics, but was established in other media (think a past DC show or movie). After the (financial) success of Suicide Squad last year, Warner Bros. put a sequel into development, along with spinoff film Gotham City Sirens and maybe a Deadshot movie. Funko Officially Reveals Wave 2 of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Pops
After a successful first wave last year, Funko is making more Pop! figures based on Batman: The Animated Series. We saw some conceptual artwork for the second wave a few months back, but now, the company has formally revealed them. This wave of figures will feature Bane, Clayface, Catwoman, Phantasm, Scarecrow, and Robot Batman. The latter will also have a Chase variant, which is a 1-in-6 rarity. The figures will hit stores in September. And as a bonus, Funko is also releasing a Batman ’66 Pop! Home ceramic mug. This will hit stores in August. WONDER WOMAN Grosses a Strong $103 Million in Opening Weekend
DC Films’ Wonder Woman was always expected to be a box office hit, as tracking expectations have gone higher and higher over the weeks leading up to release. The latest installment of the DC Extended Universe was originally expected to make $65-75 million in its opening weekend in North America, and this week, it went up to $95 million. The movie has also benefited from overwhelmingly positive reviews by both critics and the general audience; something that past DCEU entries didn’t have.
