BLACK PANTHER Lands Several Oscar Nominations, Including Best Picture
The Academy announced its nominees for the 91st Oscars ceremony this morning. Fans have had their eyes on Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, which has been receiving plenty of awards buzz. Now, the film has received multiple nominations, making history in the process. Black Panther is among the eight films nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. It is the first superhero movie in history to be nominated for this award. The genre has tried and failed for years to break into the ceremony. Most notably, movies like The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, and Logan were snubbed, despite much awards buzz. However, Black Panther has now broken the barrier. Additionally, Black…

Warner Bros. Reaffirms Emphasis on DC Solo Films After AQUAMAN’s Success
With Warner Bros.’ DC Films receiving mixed results critically and financially over the years, the studio has re-evaluated its approach…at least several times. Most recently, WB committed to emphasizing on solo films driven by directors, rather than big team movies. While these movies take place in the same universe, there won’t be an overarching story, like the Infinity Gauntlet arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it’s an approach that has worked so far. Wonder Woman earned rave reviews and remains DC Films’ biggest movie domestically. And Aquaman has gone on to make over $1 billion worldwide. Even Man of Steel, which polarized fans, was better received critically than Batman…

GLASS on Track for $45-50 Million Opening Weekend
M. Night Shyamalan concludes his superhero trilogy this weekend with Glass, which combines Unbreakable and Split into a long-awaited sequel. After strong marketing, the film was on track to open in the $50-70 million range. However, early reviews have been mixed at best, which could impact box office legs. Now, latest tracking suggests a slight underperformance. Glass is now tracking to open in the $45-50 million range over the four-day MLK weekend. This includes an estimated $15 million+ opening today. This is definitely below early projections, but it’s not all bad. For starters, Glass has a production budget of $20 million, a fraction of most modern superhero movies. So, it…

REVIEW: GLASS (2019) – The “Batman v Superman” We Deserved
Glass doesn't try to one-up its predecessors. Instead, Glass is a film more interested in asking what it means to be a mastermind, a hero, or a villain.

Review: SPLIT (2017)
*WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS* When the trailers for M. Night Shyamalan’s Split hit the web, I had no idea what I was in for. While Shyamalan’s first collaboration with Jason Blum, The Visit, felt like a true return to form for me, I was still a tad weary of the film. But the more I heard, the more I became intrigued. And by release date, I was there, excited to see what the film was going to entail. By the time the credits rolled, I realized that it had completely blown my expectations out of the water. Split follows Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy), a shy introverted teenager who is kidnapped along…

New Details on the Voice Cast of BATMAN: HUSH
Batman: Hush is one of our most anticipated films in the coming year. We haven’t heard much about the project aside from its release date. That is until now. Our friends at Revenge of the Fans dropped some major casting news. While the actors have not been attached to specific roles, we do have their names. First we have Jason O’Mara, who has played Batman numerous times. It’s a safe bet that he will be playing The Dark Knight. Next is Jerry O’Connell, who has played Superman in the latest version of the DC Animated Universe. He’s a lock for Kal-El. Things start to get interesting with the rest of…

OPINION: Why Carrie Fisher was Irreplaceable as Leia Organa Solo
There’s been some back and forth over Carrie Fisher‘s last appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX. Many people don’t think she should have been present, while others suggested a recast or even a CGI digital recreation, like in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Ultimately, Todd Fisher (her brother) and Billie Jo Fisher (her daughter) agreed to allow Lucasfilm to use unseen footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi in Episode IX. This was ultimately done in order to fulfill the original intention for the episode, to give Carrie “her” movie. Episode VII was Harrison Ford‘s movie, Episode VIII was Mark Hamill‘s movie, and Episode IX was supposed to be Carrie’s. This has been confirmed from many…

REVIEW: UNBREAKABLE (2000)
Heroes walk among us, and they take the shape of ordinary people taking life a day at a time. They’re our police officers, our teachers, our baristas, parents, lovers, and friends (and also Kenny Rogers). But we live in a culture with misplaced priorities. A culture that idolizes actors and politicians. One obsessed with the extraordinary heroes of comic books and the superhuman feats they can achieve. Writer/Director M Night Shyamalan saw this disparity at a time when comic book movies were a blip on the cultural landscape. And in Unbreakable, he exploits the disparity in a clever way. David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is a an everyday security guard with…

Other superhero movies that have made more than a billion…

Oscar Producers Aiming to Recruit The Avengers for 2019 Academy Awards
The Avengers have saved Earth many times. They stopped Loki and Ultron’s invasions, they took on HYDRA, and they…made an attempt to stop Thanos. And now, it looks like their latest mission is to…save the Oscars? With Kevin Hart out, there has been much speculation on who will host this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. But now, it looks like there won’t be an actual “host.” Rather, the show’s producers will likely hire a rotating cast of actors to introduce different segments. The producers are in the process of lining up as many big actors from the Avengers franchise as possible. Exact details on their roles in the ceremony are still…
