CAPTAIN MARVEL Officially Begins Production; Phil Coulson and Ronan the Accuser to Appear
Today, Marvel Studios announced the start of production on its next blockbuster, Captain Marvel. The press release confirmed a slew of details, such as filming locations. But most importantly, we have the full cast, which reveals the returns of several MCU characters. First up, Clark Gregg is returning as Phil Coulson. Of course, Coulson was a key recurring character in Marvel’s first phase, ending with his death in The Avengers. He was later resurrected for ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is now in its fifth season. The modern day Avengers still believe Coulson to be dead, but with Captain Marvel set in the 1990s, it makes more sense to have…

DEADPOOL Animated Series Loses FX and Donald Glover
Last year, it was announced that FX and Marvel Television were teaming up to create an adult animated series starring Deadpool. Donald and Stephen Glover came on board as showrunners for the 10-episode series, which was scheduled to launch this year on FXX. Unfortunately, that’s no longer happening. FX has announced today (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the network and the Glovers are no longer attached to Deadpool. Here is the network’s statement. “Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series. FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship…

BLACK PANTHER Becomes the Biggest Superhero Movie of All Time in North America
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther has become an absolute sensation, breaking record after record at the box office. Today, it has taken a new throne. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther has today surpassed The Avengers ($623.4 million) as the highest grossing superhero film of all time in North America. It is also one of just seven films to ever pass $600 million domestically. T’Challa’s movie was always expected to be a hit, but moreso than Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Who could have predicted that? To date, Black Panther is at $1.2 billion worldwide, and it will pass Iron Man 3 this weekend. After that, it’ll be the third highest grossing…

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Promoting Constantine to Series Regular for Possible Season 4
Legends of Tomorrow hasn’t been formally renewed for a fourth season (yet), but if it is, the show is adding a new character to the team. It has been announced (via TV Line) that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine will be a series regular on Legends next season. That is, if the show is renewed. But the series, along with the rest of The CW’s DC shows, is fully expected to come back. And the promotion of one character is a pretty good indicator of its renewal chances. Constantine starred in his own show on NBC before its infamous cancellation. In 2015, the character was brought into the Arrowverse in an…

Don’t Expect THE BATMAN to Begin Production This Year
Last year, Matt Reeves was hired to take over as writer and director of The Batman. Since then, we haven’t gotten many official updates. Currently, there’s still uncertainty on whether Ben Affleck will reprise the role here (though it’s looking unlikely), while baseless speculation “rumors” of Reeves exiting the film had to be debunked. Now, we have a production update. According to Heroic Hollywood, The Batman is not expected to begin production until 2019. This makes sense, given that Reeves is really taking his time with writing the story and script. Also, Warner Bros. is already shooting 3-4 DC movies this year. Shazam! is filming now, Wonder Woman 2 is shooting…

Casting Updates for VENOM and CAPTAIN MARVEL
Time to take a break from the Avengers: Infinity War insanity. This week, we have a couple of casting updates for two upcoming Marvel-based films. According to Deadline, actress Sope Aluko joined the cast of Sony’s Venom movie, which wrapped production a couple months ago. No word on who she’s playing. Aluko plays Shaman, a guardian of the Heart-Shaped Herb, in Black Panther. However, with Venom expected to take place in its own world without ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can assume she’s playing someone else here. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel is undergoing a casting shakeup, with DeWanda Wise exiting due to scheduling conflicts. Fortunately, Marvel has already found…
