Warner Bros. Officially Announces Start of Production on SHAZAM!; Plot Synopsis Released
Last week, director David F. Sandberg confirmed that Shazam! has begun filming. Now, Warner Bros. has put out the start-of-production press release, confirming new details on the DC film. The press release offers the movie’s plot synopsis, which teases Billy Batson’s discovery of his powers and his impending battle with Dr. Sivana. BLACK PANTHER Now Tracking for Huge $150 Million Opening Weekend
Initial tracking for Marvel’s Black Panther suggested that the film would open in the $100-120 million range. But usually, tracking for big blockbusters goes up as we get closer to the movie’s release. Two weeks before release, Black Panther has gotten an increase – a big one at that. According to Variety, updated tracking for Black Panther has the film on course for a massive $150 million over the four-day Presidents Day weekend. First VENOM Trailer Has Been Classified
Production recently wrapped on Sony’s Venom movie, but it looks like marketing is going to begin sooner rather than later. Manitoba Film Classification Board (via Trailer-Track) has classified the first trailer for the upcoming comic book horror movie. No runtime was given. As for when the trailer will drop, Trailer-Track suggests that it will be within the next couple weeks, and it will be attached to Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. F. Gary Gray in Talks to Direct MEN IN BLACK Spinoff at Sony
One of Sony Pictures’ most iconic franchises is Men in Black, which is loosely based on the Malibu Comics (an imprint of Marvel) series. So far, the franchise has spawned three films starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, grossing more than $1.6 billion worldwide. Now, a spinoff is in the works, and a director has been found. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Kendrick Lamar is producing the soundtrack for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. The soundtrack will consist of original songs from and inspired by the movie. Kevin Feige Isn't Thinking About Adding X-Men and Fantastic Four to the Marvel Cinematic Universe…Yet
Last month, Disney confirmed that the company was in the process of acquiring 21st Century Fox, including its film studio. This would bring the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool franchises under the Marvel Studios umbrella. However, the merger is at least a year away from happening, as the deal needs to receive congressional approval before being finalized. In the meantime, what does Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige have to say about it?
