Review: ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL – Tons of Heart But Not Much Else
Alita: Battle Angel is about a young cyborg girl who lost her memory. The film is about her discovering who she is. With the help of her friends, she realizes that she is the key to saving the world. Rosa Salazar stars as the titular character. She’s able to play this warm and innocent girl, but in an instant turn into an unbeatable fighting machine. The entire cast does well with what they’re given. Christoph Waltz (Dr. Dyson), Jennifer Connelly (Chiren), Mahershala Ali (Vector) and deliver solid performances. However, I wish there were given better material to work with. Narrative-wise the film is a bit of a mess. It lacks…

CAPTAIN MARVEL on Track for Big $100 Million Opening Weekend
Marvel Studios‘ films tend to make a lot of money at the box office, and its next title is no exception. Captain Marvel has hit the tracking boards, and if early projections are any indication, it will continue Marvel’s streak. Right now, Captain Marvel is on track to open to a stellar $100 million+ over its debut weekend. This would make it the third MCU origin movie to reach that figure in its opening, following Iron Man and Black Panther. Of course, this is early tracking, so this number can always go higher or lower. But the film has generated a lot of positive buzz with its marketing, and it…

BATMAN VS. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Animated Movie Announced
The next animated Batman movie has been announced, but this one is a big deal. Here, the Dark Knight will finally meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment, and Nickelodeon are teaming up for the crossover we all wanted: Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The film is based on the 2015 comic book series Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which has spawned two more crossovers. In the movie, Batman and the Heroes in a Half-Shell will team up to take on the former’s iconic rogues gallery. Troy Baker, who has voiced Batman and The Joker in various projects, will voice both characters in this movie. The…

AQUAMAN Sequel Moving Forward with Screenwriter
We’ve already talked countless times about Aquaman‘s huge success. With a $1.1 billion gross worldwide, it’s inevitable for at least one sequel to happen. Now, Arthur Curry’s next adventure is setting sail. Screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has been hired to work on Aquaman 2. He previously wrote the first film with Will Beall, who shared story credit with Geoff Johns and director James Wan. Wan is also producing alongside Peter Safran. Right now, it’s unclear if Wan will return to direct. While he is heavily invested in Aquaman’s world, the filmmaker is reportedly waiting on the right script before making a decision. And considering how much effort Wan put into…

Feature: Five Reasons for Robert Pattinson as Batman
Last week I talked about Ben Affleck not being in the Matt Reeves directed Batman movie. Now that it’s official he won’t return, there’s rumors and fan casting going around for Robert Pattinson as Batman. There’s many reasons he could be gold in the role, but here’s five. 1. Box Office Draw The first reason is his box office pull. Sure, he did the Twilight movies, and yes they ranged from okay to garbage. But they still made a ton of money, and that is something Warner Bros is aware of. You should never underestimate an actor’s Box Office draw. 2. Acting Prowess The second reason is his acting talents. Again,…

Warner Bros. Developing AQUAMAN Spinoff About The Trench
DC Films‘ Aquaman was a huge success, breathing new life into the mega-franchise. Fans have been waiting on word about the inevitable sequel. But while we wait, Warner Bros. looks to be expanding the franchise in the form of a spinoff. A spinoff film about The Trench is in development, as screenwriters Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald have been hired to tackle the script. Aquaman director James Wan will produce alongside Peter Safran. The spinoff, which will have a “horror-tinged” tone, will have a much smaller budget than your typical DC film. It will also be set in the kingdom of The Trench and not feature any major characters from…

Review: MYSTERY MEN
Based on Flaming Carrot Comics written by Bob Burden, Mystery Men is a movie following a group of Z-level superheroes. These superheroes gather together to save Captain Amazing, who‘s been kidnapped by his arch nemesis. To best describe Mystery Men, it’s as if the writer watched the anime Tiger and Bunny and wanted to give it a comedic flair. The movie is a blend of 90’s Ben Stiller comedies and old Mel Brooks films. Mystery Men is a property that would be perfect in today’s cinematic climate. With superheroes being the hot commodity today, it’s shocking there hasn’t been a second attempt to adapt the property. We live in an…

Ben Affleck – The Batman We Deserved
I have been an avid Batman-fan since the 1990’s. I remember watching Batman: The Animated Series and it’s subsequent spin-offs. There was really no live-action incarnation of the Caped Crusader that matched what I experienced on that show. It was a perfect blend of action, detective-stuff and pretty mature (for the time) drama. Then along came the (Joel) Schumacher-era of Batman movies; they ranged from okay to absolute garbage. Then we had the Nolan-era with Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. And even though Christopher Nolan took more of a, lets say grounded and realistic approach. It was missing some of the more fantastical elements from…
