This week’s DC Films non-issue that went viral online comes from a month-old interview with The Batman director Matt Reeves, who said that his movie was “standalone” and “not part of the extended universe.” This led to people speculating whether the film is set in its own continuity, and it only further fuels the “Ben Affleck is quitting Batman!!!!” debate. Marvel TV Developing New Female-Led Series with ABC
Over the past few years, Marvel has been dramatically increasing its television slate. The studio currently has five shows on Netflix (with the sixth, The Punisher, coming this year), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC (with Inhumans premiering next month), Runaways coming to Hulu, Legion on FX, The Gifted premiering on Fox this fall, and two shows premiering on Freeform next year. Casting is well underway on Titans, the live action series that will launch DC’s streaming service next year. Earlier this month, it was announced that newcomer Teagan Croft landed the role of Raven. And now, we know who’s playing Starfire. According to Deadline, 24: Legacy actress Anna Diop has been cast in the series regular role of Koriand’r, aka Starfire. Warner Bros. has over a dozen DC movies in development, making up the DC Extended Universe. But the studio’s latest move goes beyond that universe, promising a new take on the most iconic comic book villain. According to Deadline, WB is developing a new film telling the origin story of The Joker. The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will direct, produce and co-write the script with Scott Silver, while legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is on board as a producer. Check Out the First Teaser for Netflix's THE PUNISHER
Following this week’s The Defenders, Marvel and Netflix’s next original series will star The Punisher himself. While Frank Castle never showed up in the ensemble miniseries, the finale did include a Punisher teaser after the credits. And now, Netflix has officially released the teaser. The trailer primarily focuses on Castle slamming the ground with a sledgehammer, intertwined with footage of him in action and glimpses of his tragic past.
