HELLBOY Trailer Has Been Released
Lionsgate has finally released the first trailer for Hellboy, the comic book character’s long-awaited return to the big screen. However, this movie will be a reboot that is separate from Guillermo del Toro’s films. The R-rated story sees Hellboy working to stop the Blood Queen from destroying mankind. Sony has been on a roll with its Marvel properties lately. The studio successfully relaunched its biggest franchise with Marvel Studios in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Venom began its own Marvel Universe with huge box office numbers, and this weekend, the critically acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released. Box Office Updates: Aquaman and Deadpool Go Into the Spider-Verse
Two superhero movies took on the domestic box office this week, while another continues its reign overseas and in preview screenings. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened with $35.4 million this weekend – a solid start for the universally acclaimed animated movie. The film took in another $21 million overseas, bringing its worldwide debut to $56.4 million. Into the Spider-Verse was produced with a $90 million budget (not counting marketing), so it should easily turn a profit, especially with strong word-of-mouth and holiday legs. The CW wrapped up its “Elseworlds” crossover event last night, concluding an insane story that sees The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl join forces. Without spoiling anything, the event lays the groundwork for next year’s crossover, and now, we know what it will be called. This is the big one, guys. Scott Derrickson Finalizes Deal to Direct DOCTOR STRANGE Sequel
Despite the success of 2016’s Doctor Strange, Marvel has been slow to give any details on a potential sequel, except that it is happening. Since then, Strange has become a recurring character in the MCU, including a show-stealing role in Avengers: Infinity War. Now, the Sorcerer Supreme’s next film is moving forward. Director Scott Derrickson has finalized a deal to return for the Doctor Strange sequel. A writer is currently being sought. Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong are attached to reprise their roles as Stephen Strange and Wong, respectively. With DragonBall Super Broly on its way and One Piece Gold’s success, it’s not a surprise that Luffy and his straw hat gang will be getting another movie. PLASTIC MAN Movie Enters Development (Again) at Warner Bros.
Back in the 1990s, Warner Bros. began to develop a movie starring DC superhero Plastic Man. The project was revived a decade later, with a planned film starring Keanu Reeves and directed by the Wachowskis. Obviously, that never happened. But it looks like Patrick “Eel” O’Brian is being given another shot. A Plastic Man movie is now in development at WB and DC Films. It is being written by up-and-coming scribe Amanda Idoko, who was hired by the studio after searching for half a year. No director is hired yet. While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film will reportedly stay true to the comedic tone of the comics.…

BLACK PANTHER Receives Best Picture Drama Nomination at the Golden Globes
Marvel Studios has been pushing an awards campaign for Black Panther, which has the rare legitimate shot of receiving big nominations at the Academy Awards and other ceremonies. The campaign has received a major victory, as the 2019 Golden Globes nominations have been announced. Black Panther has been nominated for the Best Motion Picture – Drama award. This is the first superhero movie in history to ever get a nod in that category. It is also the second superhero film to get any sort of Best Motion Picture nomination; Deadpool was up in the Musical or Comedy category in 2017.
