Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 formally kicked off the summer season last weekend with a $146.5 million opening weekend in North America. This cements the sequel as the studio’s latest box office smash. This weekend, the film easily held on to the top spot again, despite a couple of new releases. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 grossed an estimated $63 million this weekend, about 57% down from last week. ABC Renews AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. for Season 5
ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was the first television entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, premiering back in 2013. The show has focused on S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. Hydra, Inhumans, LMDs, and even Ghost Rider over its four-year run. Additionally, there have been some tie-ins to the MCU, referencing key events such as the Battle of New York and the passing of the Sokovia Accords. This season, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. moved to ABC’s 10 PM on Tuesdays slot, which led to lower ratings. However, it has done well with DVR views, while it serves as a solid weekly promotional tool for the MCU. So, fans weren’t too sure if the show would live on…

Both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter say that Wonder Woman is currently on track to gross at least $65 million in its opening weekend. That would put it on par with the first Thor and Captain America movies back in 2011. However, one tracking source shares a more…

SyFy Officially Orders KRYPTON to Series
Back in December 2014, SyFy began developing the television pilot Krypton, which takes place two generations before the destruction of the titular planet. Since then, the network has taken its time, as the pilot wasn’t formally ordered until last year. The pilot was then cast and shot, and some leaked promos popped up on the web. But now, it’s official. SyFy has given a series order for Krypton. It’s currently unclear if the show will premiere this fall or during midseason, while the episode count is also unknown. Krypton focuses on Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El (played by Cameron Cuffe), as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world…

BLACK LIGHTNING Gets a Series Order at The CW
The next DC superhero to enter the world of television is Black Lightning, thanks to Salim and Mara Brock Akil, as well as Greg Berlanti. The pilot was originally set up at Fox, before moving over to The CW. The latter network is already home to all of Berlanti’s other comic book shows (the Arrowverse shows and Riverdale), so Black Lightning seemed like a natural fit. Now, it’s official. The CW has confirmed a series order for Black Lightning. The show stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce, who returns to the world of superheroics/vigilantism after years of retirement. The series also stars Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain, and Christine Adams. While…
