Djimon Hounsou is in AQUAMAN Too
It was announced this week that Djimon Hounsou is in DC’s Shazam! movie, replacing Ron Cephas Jones as The Wizard. This comes after he reprised the role of Korath in Captain Marvel. But it turns out that Hounsou has another role in DC Films’ universe; one that we’ll see even sooner, in fact. Entertainment Weekly has released a new image from Aquaman, featuring a first look at the rulers of the Fisherman Kingdom. The King is played by none other than Djimon Hounsou. BLACK WIDOW Movie Recruits Director Cate Shortland
For the past few months, Marvel Studios has been looking at directors for its long-awaited Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson. The studio has been adamant about having a female director for this particular film. Last we heard, Lore filmmaker Cate Shortland was the frontrunner to take the job. Now, it’s happening. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shortland has signed on to direct Black Widow. The hire comes after over 70 directors were considered. Amma Asante (A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) were the finalists, while Melanie Laurent (Galveston) and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) came close too. First SHAZAM! Still Finally Gives an Official First Look at the Suit
Shazam! is expected to be present at Warner Bros.’ San Diego Comic-Con panel next week, and to get fans ready, we have a first official still from the DC adaptation. Dwayne Johnson Offers BLACK ADAM Production Update, Teases DC Universe Cameos
Last we heard on the Black Adam movie, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said that production could start sometime next year. Well, it looks like that’s still the plan, but it may not be quite as soon as we’ve expected. Speaking with Filmstarts, Johnson says that Black Adam could “possibly” start production in late 2019. Mystery Marvel Film Moves Up to February 2021
Disney previously set three release dates for unknown Marvel Studios movies in the year 2021. One one of the given dates was July 30th. Well, whatever movie that is, it now looks like we’ll be seeing it sooner. As part of its latest schedule shakeup (via Box Office Mojo), the untitled Marvel movie is now scheduled for release on February 12th, 2021. We don’t really know anything more beyond that. But considering how successful Black Panther was in the February slot this year, I would bet money on this date being the inevitable sequel. Then again, they also have a February date for 2022, so it could go either way.…

It’s Official: Joaquin Phoenix Will Play The Joker
A while back, it was reported that Joaquin Phoenix was in talks to star in Warner Bros.’ Joker origin movie, which will kick off a slate of non-canon DC movies. While sites suggested that Phoenix was likely to close the deal, the actor has approached multiple comic book roles before turning them down. However, it’s now official.
