Supergirl Casts Vice President in Brent Spiner
Brent Spiner will be recurring as Vice President Baker when Supergirl returns this fall. Baker is “described as “Adept and politically minded”” and proves himself to be an unlikely leader when his country needs him most. Could this be a sign President Marsdin will fall? In our latest installment of Movie News Bits, we have some Cowboy Ninja Viking casting news, an update on Flashpoint, Sin City news, a possible X-Force villain, and a trailer for the next Pokémon movie. Quantico star Priyanka Chopra is in talks to join Universal’s Cowboy Ninja Viking, starring Chris Pratt and directed by Michelle MacLaren. If a deal closes, Chopra will play Sara Nix, a psychologist who monitors Duncan (Pratt) and may or may not develop feelings for him. Right after news about Robert De Niro being in negotiations to join Joker, The Wrap reports that Frances Conroy (who you might recognize from Sleepless in Seattle and American Horror Story) is in talks to play the mom of the title role that Joaquin Phoenix is playing. The Joker movie would not be the first time Miss Conroy would visit the world of DC Comics. She has lent her voices to projects like All-Star Superman and Superman Unbound. Zazie Beetz in Talks to Join JOKER Movie
It’s full steam ahead on Warner Bros.’ Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix. The film just got a release date this week, and now, the studio is looking to fill out the supporting cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Zazie Beetz is in talks to join Joker. If a deal closes, she will play a single mother who catches the attention of the future Joker. Jeremy Renner Set to Star in SPAWN
Jeremy Renner will be joining Jamie Foxx and Todd McFarlane in the Blumhouse adaption of Spawn. Deadline reports that Renner will be playing Detective “Twitch” Williams, while Foxx will be playing Al Simmons. The budget has yet to be determined (it’ll likely be in the $10-12 million range), but McFarlane is hopeful these casting choices will help it, as well as “spawn” a franchise. HBO’s WATCHMEN Pilot Casts Jeremy Irons in Lead Role
HBO’s Watchmen pilot is currently undergoing production, after years in development. Showrunner Damon Lindelof explained that the series, which stars Regina King and others, will not be another straight-up adaptation of the comic; rather, it’s a contemporary follow-up of sorts. Now, we have another major cast member. According to Deadline, legendary actor Jeremy Irons is taking on a lead role in the Watchmen pilot. Specific details on his character are unknown, beyond the fact that he’s an “aging and imperious” lord of a British manor. This marks Irons’ second foray into DC territory. Jared Leto to Play Morbius the Living Vampire in Movie Directed by Daniel Espinosa
Among the Marvel movies in development at Sony has been Morbius the Living Vampire, based on the Spider-Man villain/antihero of the same name. The film recruited screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama a few months ago, but since then, we haven’t heard a lot of news about it. Now, we have some big news. THE CROW Remake Loses its Star and Director…Again
Another movie based on The Crow has been in development off-and-on for the past decade. This reimagining of the James O’Barr graphic novel has struggled to lock down a cast and director, with actors like Bradley Cooper and Luke Evans being attached and suddenly exiting. Most recently, Sony picked up the film, titled The Crow Reborn, with an October 2019 date set. Jason Momoa was cast as Eric Draven, with Corin Hardy hired to direct.
