Swamp Thing follows CDC researcher Abby Arcane as she returns to investigate a swamp-borne virus in her hometown in Louisiana. She falls in love with another scientist only to lose him, but find a chance in recovering him… from the swamp. Swamp Thing is set to start filming this fall in North Carolina, and will premiere sometime early next year. Next up, Young Justice: Outsiders! BLACK ADAM Producer Offers Script Update, Teases an Edgy DC Movie
Last we heard on the Black Adam movie, star Dwayne Johnson suggested that production could begin in late 2019. Scribe Adam Sztykiel has been working on the screenplay, while a director hasn’t been hired yet. Now, we have a new update from a producer. Seven Bucks Productions president Hiram Garcia tells Collider that Black Adam is “definitely” happening, and the scripting process is going well. He reaffirms that Black Adam was the character that Johnson was sold on years ago, while the plan to split this and Shazam! into two movies allow them to properly develop both characters. Matt Smith Joins STAR WARS EPISODE IX in Key Role
Star Wars Episode IX is still filling out its cast, as production is underway in the UK. Its latest addition is someone with plenty of geek cred. Matt Smith, aka the Eleventh Doctor from Doctor Who, has joined the cast of Episode IX in what’s said to be a “key” role. And, unsurprisingly, that’s all we know about his character. It’s unclear if he will be a good guy or a villain. We’ll just have to wait and see. DC Universe Set to Launch on Batman Day, TITANS Premiere Announced
The DC Daily livestream took place tonight, where Kevin Smith gave fans an exclusive look inside DC Universe. Including in the livestream is a lot of news, including when the service launches and when we get to see its first original series. DC Universe will launch on Saturday, September 15th, which falls on Batman Day. Basically, DC will be going all out on that day. Alec Baldwin Has Already Exited JOKER Movie
Two days ago, it was reported that Alec Baldwin had joined the cast of Warner Bros.’ Joker movie as Thomas Wayne, aka the father of Bruce Wayne/Batman. It was a fun thought while it lasted, however. Baldwin tells USA Today that he has dropped out of Joker, citing a scheduling conflict. “I’m no longer doing that movie. I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.” Scheduling conflicts happen all the time, but it’s odd how Baldwin cites it just two days after his casting was first reported. Kerry Washington to Produce and Star in OLD CITY BLUES
Kerry Washington (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) will both star in and produce Old City Blues for Hulu. The news is coming from The Hollywood Reporter and will be Washington’s second Hulu original series. Old City Blues was a comic book published by Giannis Milonogiannis in 2011. The series is set in the year 2048. It takes place in Athens featuring high-tech criminals and corrupt politicians. Chris Black (Outcast) will serve as the showrunner while Allison Davis will pen the script. CONSTANTINE Event Will Air on The CW
Constantine: City of Demons ran on The CW Seed (The CW’s digital service), but now it will air on The CW’s official TV station for a special event. The event is titled Constantine: The Legend Continues, and will be hosted by Matt Ryan (John Constantine) himself. The one hour special event will air on Monday, October 15th at 9:00 PM EST right after the Arrow season 7 premiere. It will feature exclusive interviews from the Arrowverse casts, as well as a sneak peak at season 4 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The Flash has a new villain coming to Central City and he’s bound to have the team in knots. According to TV Insider, America’s Got Talent alum Troy James has been cast to play Rag Doll. In the comics, Peter Merkel (Rag Doll) has superhuman flexibility. James is a Contortionist and is the perfect person to play Rag Doll. It will be fun to see what he adds to The Flash. Warner Bros.’ Joker movie has been assembling a truly impressive cast for a comic book film. Joaquin Phoenix is set to play the future Clown Prince of Crime, with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and more filling out the supporting cast. Now, the latest casting confirms the presence of a key DC Comics character. Actor Alec Baldwin is joining Joker as none other than Thomas Wayne, aka Bruce Wayne/Batman’s father. Traditionally, Wayne is depicted as a physician and philanthropist. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, this movie will portray Wayne as a “cheesy and tanned” businessman, a la 1980s Donald Trump.
