Dave Filoni revealed today in an SDCC panel sneakily titled as a way to honor the show’s tenth anniversary, that the show would be returning on Disney Direct, Disney’s upcoming streaming service. SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Heading to Home Video This Fall
While Solo: A Star Wars Story did well with critics, the film was anything but spectacular at the box office. The movie, which had a production budget between $250 million and $300 million (if not more), only grossed $212 million domestically and $385 million worldwide. These are really bad numbers for a Star Wars movie, especially with a massive budget. There’s still hope that home video sales will give it a boost, and now, we know when that will happen. It has been announced that Solo is heading to digital platforms on September 14th, before going to 4K, Blu-Ray and DVD on September 25th. The home video release will have the…

Billy Dee Williams Will Return as Lando Calrissian in STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Pre-production on J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode IX is well underway, with filming set to start this month. Several actors from the last two films will return here, while Keri Russell is in talks to play a new character. Now, an original Star Wars trilogy alum – who has been rumored to return for years – has signed on. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise the role of Lando Calrissian in Episode IX. Williams has been rumored to join the sequel trilogy from the beginning, but for one reason or another, it didn’t work out until now. More recently, Williams dropped out of a…

Keri Russell in Talks to Join STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Production is about to begin on Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars movie, Episode IX. J.J. Abrams returns to direct, with actors like Daisy Ridley and John Boyega reprising their roles from past films. Now, casting is underway for new characters, and Abrams is eyeing a familiar face. According to Variety, Keri Russell is in early talks for a role in Episode IX. She and J.J. Abrams worked together on the Felicity television series, as well as Abrams’ first movie as a director, Mission: Impossible III. While Russell’s deal isn’t closed yet, the fact that she and Abrams have collaborated before can only help. As usual, details on Russell’s potential role are…

FEATURE: Why Kenobi: A Star Wars Story on Disney’s Streaming Service is a Good Idea
“Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope!” A galaxy in turmoil, the Star Wars are. In recent days, Lucasfilm has faced steep criticism of The Last Jedi, a box office bomb in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and an uncertain reality, as the House George Built retools future development plans. A rumor recently surfaced that those retooling plans would have a big impact, with the oft-rumored Kenobi: A Star Wars Story potentially being moved to Disney’s new streaming service. Of course, people on social media had a lot to say about this. I don’t understand Lucasfilms, the only Star Wars story movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi is being put on hold because…

RUMOR: Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Will Cameo in Episode IX, feature in Spin-Off Film for Disney’s Streaming Service
It’s been a crazy few weeks for the Master of Form III. Hot on the heels of Lucasfilm’s retooling efforts, the internet is alight with fresh rumors about a fan-favorite Jedi Master. The Sun reports that Ewan McGregor will cameo as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode IX. This isn’t the first time such a rumor has run the mill. However, the J.J. Abrams directed film starts principal photography next month, so the timetable for signing McGregor fits with recent reports. McGregor is set to film The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep, this fall, giving the actor a brief window in the summer to rendezvous with Pinewood. Elsewhere, The Playlist is…

Box Office Updates for DEADPOOL 2 and SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY
This weekend has been dominated by new release Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and last week’s Incredibles 2, but some other movies have reached key box office milestones. Per Box Office Mojo, Fox’s Deadpool 2 took in an estimated $5.3 million this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $304.2 million. It also reached $403 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $707.2 million. While it’s still lagging a bit behind the first film, these are impressive numbers, particularly when you consider the amount of competition this summer. Things don’t look nearly as good for Solo: A Star Wars Story, however. The film grossed an additional $4.5 million this weekend, finally edging it…

New Report Clarifies Lucasfilm’s Current Approach to STAR WARS Spinoffs
The box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story was a surprise, and it led to much speculation on how Disney and Lucasfilm will tackle future films…if they’re even made at all. A report this week claimed that the story spinoffs, revolving around characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett, are being put on hold while Lucasfilm focuses on other films. Lucasfilm later downplayed the report. Now, we have some clarification. According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Lucasfilm isn’t slowing down development on the Star Wars spinoffs per say. Rather, Kathleen Kennedy and co. are reassessing how to make and market them. For example, the Boba Fett movie –…
